The Goggle Wearing Gannet.

Welcome to the adventures of the intrepid, short sighted Gary as he grows from a chick into a champion. In the first episode Gary and his classmates are getting giddy, school is nearly up for the day, but not quite. Miss Gangly, their teacher, wants one more poem recited. And guess who she picks for this recital ..

Gertrude and Gerhardt get the injured Gary back to his parents' nest. The doctor arrives, and Gary tries to explain what happened.

Gary's Da attempts to teach Gary, Gertrude and Gerhardt the basics for diving safely. He has to change his plans and does three demonstration dives instead. Chicks being chicks though only have a short attention span.

Gary, Gertrude and Gerhardt have their second diving lesson with Gary's Da. All goes to plan and the three chicks successfully complete their first dive and catch their own sprat, but before Gary completes his dive, he needs to take a close up look at where the sprats actually are.

Gary's Da goes in search of the the peaked cap, scarf wearing starling he spotted the previous day. He finds the staring, who goes by the name of Col. Starling, at a local watering hole and asks him about the contraption he wears over his eyes. Col. Starling agrees to help Gary's Da purchase a similar pair of goggles from a Mr. Maggie, a very dodgy magpie.

A goggle wearing Gary excitedly tells his parents about what he can now see, just before he dives and catches some food for them. Later he meets Gertrude who has some very interesting information about Gary's Da. Gertrude and Gary disagree on what to do with this information.

Gary comes home from school and asks his Mum about what Gertrude had said about his Da. His Mum confirms that Gary's Da was indeed a Four Cliffs dive champion when he was younger, but that he never got to compete in the Extraordinary Gannet Games (EGG). Gary then decides to go to Gertrude's nest to thank her for the information and to apologize for arguing with her that morning, stopping at Mrs Gardiner, the florist, along the way.

Gary interviews his Da and asks him how and why he missed out at competing in the Extraordinary Gannet Games. Gary's Da recalls bird flu pandemics and violent summer storms and tells a bone breaking tale of rescuing Gary's grandad from the raging sea.
