    52:46||Season 5, Ep. 1
    Michelle Carroll is full of a whole host of insights and offers much food for thought with respect to the culture of appearance, what shapes our appearance and what are the factors that make us feel pigeon holed into thinking there is a look, or an ideal, that we must hit. This is well worth a listen if you A) Are an athlete B) Are a coach or C) Have ever struggled with liking your own appearance. You can fine Michelle on Instagram @ michellecarroll1 and can head over to www.michellecarrollfitness.ie to either work with her or complete her Disordered Eating Informed course. If you are working in the fitness industry this would be well worth considering.I am always asked how I got to the position I am currently in, what courses did I do, where did I study, who did I talk to etc. There is a lot of interest in general out there in getting into the field of nutrition, and sports nutrition in particular appears to draw some of the best & brightest. Personally, to date, it has been almost a decade long journey of third level education, hard work, life lessons and above all, absolute persistence. Being a sports dietitian is a dynamic and rewarding position that smashes together the clinical rigour of dietetics with the polar extremes of human physiology. I hope this podcast helps any prospective or budding students navigate their way towards this career, should that be their aim. If you would like to work with me to get the record straight on what types of nutrition protocols would work for you, you can find me here or reach out here.If you want to get your own nutrition knowledge levels up to speed so you can better manage your health & performance, or if you are a trainer, coach etc. and you are looking for a course you can take part in to become certified, so you can help others better, then I would highly recommend you check out the Triage Nutrition Certification Course. 34:24||Season 4, Ep. 6
    Firstly, thanks to RPM power for sponsoring this episode!Appetite can be a tricky one, we rely on our appetite to help us guide when we should eat, however, appetite is not an impenetrable mechanisms, it can be effected and disrupted by a variety of factors, including exercise, sleep, stress and erratic eating habits. Appetite dysregulation in those with high exercise loads can result in poor eating patterns & under-fuelling, or in non-athletes can generally result in patterns of restriction & binging (leading to weight gain/inability to lose weight). If you feel like your hunger and satiety signals are a little off, then take the time to tune into this episode.If you want to get your own nutrition knowledge levels up to speed so you can better manage your health & performance, or if you are a trainer, coach etc. and you are looking for a course you can take part in to become certified, so you can help others better, then I would highly recommend you check out the Triage Nutrition Certification Course. • 4. A dietitian's guide to weight loss for athletes

    27:51||Season 4, Ep. 4
    Firstly, thanks to RPM power for sponsoring this episode!Athletes always miss the forest for the trees on this topic. Losing weight or being lean is likely not going to be the biggest determinant in your sporting performance. What sport do you play or compete in, how are the podium spots decided? Is it how lean you are, who has the lowest body fat percentage or your physique? For the vast majority of people the three former items are not key performance metrics, with the exception of bodybuilding & physique competition. In many cases, when we get into the weeds on this with an athlete, the desire to lose weight on the surface is related to sports performance, but ultimately it tends to be about fitting in, low self esteem or a poor body image. Weight is not always a healthy or helpful thing.If you would like to work with my team and I to get the record straight on what types of nutrition protocols would work for you, you can find us here or reach out here. • 3. Making the case for sports drinks.

    22:23||Season 4, Ep. 3
    Firstly, thanks to RPM power for sponsoring this episode!"Evan you are a dietitian and you tell people to drink sports drinks" is a common question/critique I get. I want to make the context specific case where sports drinks are actually of benefit for somebody, and in many cases with all things considered, a net positive. Exercise metabolism is vastly differing from resting metabolism, and this point of nuance is generally ignored. I hope you enjoy the episode.If you would like to work with my team and I to get the record straight on what types of nutrition protocols would work for you, you can find us here or reach out here. • 2. Is fasted training a good idea?

    37:46||Season 4, Ep. 2
    Firstly, thanks to RPM power for sponsoring this episode!"Train on fat to burn fat", "burning more fat will lead to more fat loss", "fasted training will make you a better athlete" - these are phrases we commonly hear in settings from peers, coaches and influencers alike, the reality is that there is not a lot of evidence suggesting this is beneficial. In fact, fasted training may come with far more peril than benefit when we fully examine each and every consideration in this case. In this episode we take a brief deep dive into fasted training and give you a breakdown of the pros, cons and actual facts so that you can make fully informed choices as to how you approach your sports nutrition.
