When I first met Thai-Italian singer-songwriter Valentina Ploy, the thing that stood out to me the most was her warm, genuine energy that infected every room she was in. An artist that truly wears her heart on her sleeve, she has gone from strength to strength, gaining significant support for her music digitally, to opening for Coldplay last year. My conversation with Malaysian singer-songwriter Anna Chong caught me completely off guard. What started off as a casual conversation about her trip to Singapore turned quickly into a deeply existential conversation about Anna’s relationship with her artistry as a musician with over 16 years of experience under her belt. While many others in the Taiwanese music industry may know Mia Min Yen aka 'Taiwan Mama' for being a powerhouse supporter of exporting Taiwanese music globally, to me she's a treasured long time friend and mentor. As one of my oldest friends in the music scene, Mia has taught me so much about what it means to support other women in music, not only through words, but action.
