#347. Feared Basildon Debt Collector & Essex Boys Murder - Dean Connell

•

Dean Connell opens up about a life built on the doors, the debt, and the code of the street - from drinking in Basildon pubs at fifteen to becoming one of the most feared debt collectors in the UK.

What started on the club doors of Essex in the early 90s - nights at Raquel's, working for Mick Kelly, watching a world of glass, crack, and chaos unfold around him - became a decade-long career chasing down people who thought they could walk away from what they owed. Professional knockers. Dodgy developers. Builders who liquidated companies to shaft electricians and plasterers out of tens of thousands.

He'd seen it all, and he knew how to get a result -not through bullying, but through showing up, knowing the paperwork, and making it clear the conversation wasn't optional. But behind the reputation was a man with a strict moral compass - one who'd walk away from a genuine hard-luck case, but wouldn't blink at a millionaire hiding behind a liquidation while a Ferrari sat on the drive. He talks about the partner who never raised his voice and never needed to, the code that separated real fellas from the rest, and the moments that stick with you when you've spent years knocking on doors the world didn't want opened.

Now older, calmer, and content, he reflects on what it means to get through a life like that with your principles intact - still doing favours, still putting principle over money, still surrounded by the people who matter.

This is the eventful life of Mr Dean Connell.
