Described as "a golden opportunity to safeguard the future of cricket" by ECB chair Richard Thompson, English cricket's moment of truth is upon us after the sale of stakes in the eight Hundred teams helped bring in more than £520million.
Alongside the recreational game, which is due 10 per cent of the income, the remainder is being divided between the 18 first-class counties and the MCC. Chief executive Richard Gould believes it will be enough to sustain the game for at least the next 20 to 25 years.
