Paris Goodyear-Brown, LCSW, RPT-S, is the creator of the TraumaPlay™ model, the founder and Clinical Director of Nurture House, and the Executive Director of the TraumaPlay™ Institute. She is an internationally renowned speaker, a prolific author (Check out Paris's books here), and a master clinician. While she has spent the past 25 years specializing in treating trauma (sexual abuse, physical abuse, maltreatment and neglect) and attachment disturbances, as well as anxiety disorders, she often provides help for angry, dysregulated and depressed children and teens. She has written many books; in today's episode, we will discuss one of her more recent books: "Parents as Partners in Child Therapy: A Clinician’s Guide, Trauma and Play Therapy."

Due to inconsistencies in the definition of what a therapeutic program is and a lack of regulatory oversight, the exact number of these centers and children in them is not known but it is estimated that there is over 120,000+ children kept in over 5,000+ centers around the United States and abroad. This is collectively known as the “Troubled Teen Industry.”In this episode Tammy interviews Meg Appelgate about this Industry and her personal experiences as a teen with being placed in such an institution.
