In this episode of The CASD Education Exchange, Superintendent Chris Bigger interviews Jonathan Michael, Digital Learning Specialist. Together, they explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in K–12 education and what it means for teachers, students, and families.
Jonathan explains the difference between general AI (like recommendation systems and navigation tools) and generative AI (like ChatGPT and Gemini), and shares how teachers are using these tools to support productivity, communication, and lesson planning. He also highlights how AI-driven accessibility tools, including translation, text leveling, read-aloud features, and visual explanation tools, are helping students better access content.
The conversation covers student safety, privacy considerations, current limitations for student access, and CASD’s developing AI oversight committee. Jonathan also discusses the potential of AI to support personalized learning, and the importance of ensuring AI enhances authentic learning.
