But when we look at our diaries and every hour is spoken for, and we look around our homes and every drawer, surface and wall is full, where exactly is that good thing meant to land? I left my Friday free on purpose, and by Monday evening an invitation to a brilliant event in Sydney had arrived. I can’t prove one led to the other, but I do know that having the space meant I could say yes.If you’re feeling the pressure of the final months of the year, this one is for you. Please don’t buy into the idea that 2026 is over. There’s still half of October, all of November and December, and if we lean into the feng shui calendar, we get January as a bonus too.Why wanting something and having room for it are two very different thingsWhy so many of us feel uncomfortable being available, and how every free half hour can turn into another jobWhat I’ve been reading in The Expectation Effect by David Robson, and how our expectations shape our weekThe study on expecting acceptance, and why walking in thinking “there might be someone here I get along with” changes what you do nextTaking action alongside your intention: letting people know, asking the question and following upTime affluence, and why a free afternoon might be worth more than a new outfitLooking at your home: the desk with no room for a notebook, the chair you can’t actually sit in and the entrance you have to climb over bags to get throughKeeping things from old versions of yourself (hello, beach tennis racket) and giving yourself permission to changeWhy you haven’t failed if you leave space and nothing dramatic happensYour 4 steps for this week: choose one thing you want more room for, protect a small amount of time, get one spot at home ready and choose an expectation that gives you room to moveYou don’t need to transform your whole house or clear your whole diary.
