Texas Families Gain Private School Voucher Access
01:32|Texas families now have access to private school vouchers, with 70 schools in the Austin area approved for the program. The state comptroller released a database listing these options, and parents can start signing up on February 4th. The program allows families to use state funds for private education costs at accredited schools. Many schools focus on younger kids, with 26 serving only pre-kindergarten students and another 33 offering pre-K plus other grades. Elementary options are plentiful at 40 schools, but choices drop off for middle and high school. Most schools are in Austin and Round Rock, and they must be accredited, open for at least two years, and test students in third grade and up with national exams. Five top-rated private schools are joining in, but they represent just a slice of the areas 100 accredited privates. Families have until March 17th to apply, with award notices coming in April. More schools can join on a rolling basis, giving parents growing options as the program ramps up. Checkout Solipillow.com
