The Arts House
Lullaby for a City with John O'Brien
Cork is so lucky at the moment to have a really strong music scene across almost all genres. It really is like a Golden Age in Cork right now. And one of the people making that difference and creating opportunities for so many musicians across genres is pianist, composer and arranger, John O'Brien. In the summer of 2021, he composed a piece specially for the Cork Midsummer Festival. It was called "Lullaby for a City". With the world gradually coming out of a cocooned slumber filled with Corona-Virus nightmares, it was a love song to Cork, gently recognising the nightmare we'd been through, and calling us to wake up. Elmarie Mawe invited John over to the back garden to sit outside in the late summer sunshine and share how it had been to work and create in the time of Covid.
