The GWCT Allerton Project Podcast
From Risk to Reward: Can Regenerative Farming Pay?
In this episode of the Allerton Project Podcast, Joe Stanley is joined by James Webster-Rusk of The Andersons Centre, Emma Keller from Nestlé and Baroness Minette Batters, former President of the NFU, to explore the economics behind the transition to regenerative farming.
Drawing on the new From Risk to Reward report recently launched by The GWCT Allerton Project, commissioned by Nestlé UK, the discussion looks at what happens to farm profitability during a five-year regenerative transition, where the biggest financial pressures emerge, how yields and costs can change, and where savings in fuel, labour and machinery may help offset some of the risk.
They also explore why modelling alone is not enough, how experienced farmers helped ground-truth the findings, what the private sector can do to support change, and how the results fit into the wider conversation around farm profitability and the future of English agriculture.
A practical and wide-ranging look at the question many farmers are asking: can regenerative farming really stack up financially?
