Thank U Snowboarding
Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep1 - Chris Moran
Chris Moran is a hero of British Snowboarding, always seeing the cracks in doors and pushing them as wide open as possible, and for the beneft of snowboarding. From a young age, shredding with Ste Bailey on dryslope, to seasons in caravans in Chamonix (dear God) to the WhiteLines chalet in Meribel, Chris has always created fun and adventure and is happy to take along whoever is up for it.
I'm sure he won the Bristish Champs one year, but we didn't get to that, I also didnt give him any shit for skiing, which he sometimes does, and freely admits to, but he has earned the right to do whatever he wants, he has just spent six years renovating an old barn near Meribel, putting in plenty of graft and making what some might think crazy decisions, but which have led to a truly unique place he calls home.
An interesting person who always sees the world through a unique lens, this was a funny, lovely conversation with an old friend, I hope you enjoy it...x

9. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep9 - Simon Smith
01:15:36||Season 2, Ep. 9Finally! I hear you all cry... Its a Chrismtas miracle! Yep, the long awaited, often asked for episode with the legend that is Simon Smith is here!Simons attitude and approach to snowboarding helped influence what British snowboarding has become, we all owe him a debt of gratitude, because without Simon and his peers, snowboarding could look like skiing, and we'd all be poorer for it.His nickname 'bloody' was due to his go hard attitude, getting in the air, whether on a skateboard, bmx or snowboard with often little regard for how the landing would work out... You can see Simons work in Kaos The Movie which is on our Youtube Channel along with loadfs of other good shit: https://www.youtube.com/@ThankUSnowboardingThanks to Dan and Lizzie at Burton UK, Tom at Transform, Chris at Canoe and Oakley, Tom at Volcom and of course, the legends at The Snowboard Asylum https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/ who are there if you need any help with getting kitted out for the winter...Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year from Thank U Snowboarding xx8. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep8 - John Bassett
01:06:14||Season 2, Ep. 8Out of everyone I"ve had on so far, Johns journey is probably the closest to mine. As a way to go snowboarding, starting a business to share the experience of being in the mountains, with a comfy bed and some good food, surrounded by like minded people, its not an easy life to choose, and I know from experience that it isn't for everyone, but there is something incredible about these places that pop up, run by snowboarders for snowboarders, stripping out the bullshit the middle class ski families want, and adding in things like being shown how to wax your board, or having someone with years of experience point you in the right direction on the mountain, are all things that you won't get from the identikit chalet holiday. The Dragon Lodge is one of the last bastions of snowboard lodges in the Alps, as with everything, costs are rising and the lowly snowboarder is being pushed out, but I guarantee you, as a snowboarder, will come away from a stay there with more memories, smiles and laughs than anywhere else. If it isn't on your bucket list, then reevaluate your bucket list and go visit https://dragonlodge.com/As always, snowboarders for snowboarders and none more so than The Snowboard Asylum, whatever you need, from advice for your next riding mission to a full set up, go speak to those with a millenia of experience among them https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/Shout out to Lizzie and Dan at Burton for the ride https://www.burton.com/gb/en/home?regionSelector=trueAlso to Tom Kingsnorth and Transform Gloves, keeing my fingers warm at -11 https://transformgloves.com/en-gbAnd of course to Oakley, protecting my eyes and making things visible https://www.oakley.com/en-gbDon't forget, new stuff going up on our Insta and Youtube all the time... and if you'd like to send me an email, thankusnowboarding@gmail.comThats it, see you next weekPeace x7. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep7 - Schoph
01:47:08||Season 2, Ep. 7Schoph has been in the trenches of snowboarding and art for a long time, staying true to both his passion for sliding around on mountains and tranferring the images inside his brain onto canvas, and that staying true is leading him down a very singular path. His work with Jamie Lynn is well documented and has resulted in the brand 1910, which is currently enjoying becoming the coolest brand in snowboarding, resonating with kids and 'old heads' alike. https://9teenten.comHe is also experimenting more with an abstract side of his art which has found a home with Island Snowboards https://www.island-snowboards.com/, as well as being shown at galleries such as the Red House Gallery in Harrogate: https://www.redhouseoriginals.com/Thanks to the Dragon Lodge for looking after us https://dragonlodge.com/Thanks also to Burton https://www.burton.com/us/en/home, Oakley https://www.oakley.com and Transform Gloves https://transformgloves.com/en-gbIf you want to get in touch, you can va Instagram @thank_u_snowboarding_podcast or by emailing thankusnowboarding@gmail.comPeace x6. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep6 - Will Hughes
01:32:04||Season 2, Ep. 6Will Has covered a lot of ground throughout his snowboarding career, both figuratively and physically. From his younger days as a pink haired, Hawian shirted, ID magazine appearing dryslope ruler, to seasoned seasonaire, Dragon Lodge running, splitboarding, touring lifer in search of the perfect turn, Will liveS his life in snowboarding. An amazing few days at the Dragon Lodge, riding, laughing and vibing with an epic crew, what a pleasure to finally sit down with an old friend and talk about his passion and what keeps him motivated to walk out every morning and ride epic mountains. Thanks to the Dragon Lodge for looking after us, if you are looking for rider driven holidays, look no further: https://dragonlodge.com/Thanks also to Dan and Lizzie at Burton for the board, an Alekasam 156 which has handled all sorts of conditions brilliantly, more here: https://www.burton.comOakley were kind enough to send me over some goggles, which worked as brilliantly as you'd expect: https://www.oakley.comAnd to Tom Kingsnorth of Transform Gloves for the toasty mitts that worked even when it was -11! https://transformgloves.comAnd of course, The Snowboard Asylum for their continued support of this podcast, and for looking after snowboarders for the last 35 years...https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/MOre next week at 10am, peace out. x5. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep5 - Neil McNab
01:29:14||Season 2, Ep. 5Neil has carved himself quite a unique path, one that he certainly blazed for himself. No other UK snowboarder has earned the title of high mountain guide, a qualification that is as much about climbing as much as snowboarding, and to take clients into that environment and be responsable isn't something to be taken lightly, let alone the time and effort it takes to earn that title in the first place.Thats on top of his status as British champion, a career racing and helping set up teaching qualifications, quite the CV.Now in the envious position of living by the beach in SW France, surfning with the likes of Tom Burt (legend) looking after his body with yoga and being able to go snowboarding in the best places he chooses for him and his clinets, Neil has acheived what most of us would like to do, and fair play to him.If you would like to know more about his trips, you can find out here: https://mcnabsnowboarding.com/ If you want to know more about what kit you should use in the back country then the TSA have got you covered, their new website is here: https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/Thanks to Oakley for the goggles, I've used Oakley for years and I still think they are the best. Check their range here: https://www.oakley.com/en-gbThere are still classic UK shred prints left, the proceeds of which go to CALM, you can find out more about these here: https://thereasonmag.com/collections/since-89-print-collectionIf you'd like to get in touch with me, you can by emailing me thankusnowboarding@gmail.comI think that is it. Happy shredding xxx4. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep4 - Mon Barbour
01:14:10||Season 2, Ep. 4Delighted to be finding out more about what was an institution in the game, a brilliant shop, cultural hub in both skate and snow and place where people, including myself would pilgrimage, yes pilgrimage, to buy their kit and soak up some of SS20's, how can I put this, radness.SS20 was a snow and skate shop in Oxford, and their clever use of graphics on their T Shirts made them somewhat legendary, see someone with a fish or a barcode t shirt and you know they know. That did, in fact, happen to me on my first season... I knew enough to know that it was going to be people that gave us jobs and keep us in Val D'Isere for the season, so imagine my delight, and I remember saying ths to the other three guys I had arrived in resort with, I saw a guy at the bar in an SS20 fish T Shirt. It was mid November so no punters in town yet and this meeting led eventually to jobs, season passes and many, many good times...Mon was one of the founders along with Dave Furneau (episode coming at some point) and soon after legendary vert skater Sean Goff, and the place just had magic about it. If I'd have lived nearer I, for sure, would have worked there, or at least hung out there every weekend...You can still get hold of limted runs of T Shirts and stickers at https://wearess20.com/We are lovingly supported by The Snowboard Asylum and they have a shiny new website you can find here: https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/Also, Transform have hooked me up with some mitts I'll be taking to Tignes next week, you can check their line up here: https://transformgloves.com/ Thats it for this week, if you want to get in touch, you can at thankusnowboarding@gmail.comPeace out x3. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep3 - Zoe De Pass
01:20:56||Season 2, Ep. 3Someone you probably have never heard of this week, but as well as looking and recording some of the historical figures of our sport, I also thought it was relevant to talk to people who are getting people excited for snowboarding outside of the normal confines of what used to happen. It used to be shops and dry slopes that would be organising trips and bulding a scene, but with the majority of those gone, who is doing it? Well, people like Zoe, with a deep love of snowboarding and an audience on Instagram, she is getting groups of women together and out to the mountains. As she explains, the main reason is to get herself a trip to the mountains, but she could just blag it for her and her family, but she has created a trip for women of all backgrounds to get together and share a love of the mountains, and that, in my mind, is a reason to get her on, because not everyone would do that and share it...If you want to find out more about Zoe on Instagram, you can find her here: instagram.com/dresslikeamumShe makes a pretty sick range of sunnies, which you can find here: https://www.zoedepass.com And if you or anyone you know want to go her trip, you can find more info here: https://kalumaski.com/women-who-ski-2024/If you haven't already followed us on Instagram, you can find us here: https://www.instagram.com/thank_u_snowboarding_podcast/You can see videos we post on our Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzv12VwCKEfXL1TBup-ByCAAs always we are supported by our friends at The Snowboard Asylum, who have a new website and all the mew products for 24/25, so check them out here: https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/I mention Matt Barrs podcast ' Looking Sideways' which I am sure yoou already know about but in particular an episode he had with Greg Stump, legendary ski movie maker, which you should check out: https://www.wearelookingsideways.com/Thats it for this weekPeace out x2. Thank U Snowboarding - S2 - Ep2 - Tim Warwood
01:48:32||Season 2, Ep. 2From uber grom out of the brand new SnowDome in Tamworth, to working seasons in Colorado, to shaping the British aestehtic of snowboarding, to helping showcase our little corner of the world to the masses via Olympic commentary, Tim truly has worked and blagged and worked some more to live a life in snowboarding. Almost always upbeat, enthusiastic and frothing for the shred, Tim seems to enjoy the spotlight being on him, but from knowing him for some years, he would be exactly the same in a dark room on his own.Always finding fun and as still stoked on the shred as that grom hitting the kickers at Tamworth, his bright character hides how much work he puts into his professional career, he makes being in front of people, or commentating on the highest level events on one of the biggest broadcasters in the world, look and sound easy, but as with all things, the swan is paddling hard under the water to make them look so graceful and Tim works hard to make it look easy.Hopefully this episode will shed a new light on someone many will only know from Ski Sunday or Olympic commentary, someone who is funny as fuck and is always fun to bask in the glow of. Ladies and Gentlemen... Tim Warwood. Most, if not all, of the Lockdown movies are on our Youtube channel, as well as the Invasion and The Sequal which we also talk about, you'll find them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgzQV6PVknfiyE_odDjBNpjksuuDQoITOIf you like the sound of, but like me have never been to one of Tim and Gends (Adam Gendle) Famous First Words you can find out more here: https://www.famousfirstwords.com/As always, we are supported by our good friends at The Snowboard Asylum, which are offering 10% off your first online order, you can find out more here: https://www.snowboard-asylum.com/The Reason Magazine are still selling classic prints to help support CALM, so get on over to https://thereasonmag.com/collections/since-89-print-collection and find one you like...As promised, here is the ticket link to the Volcom movie Sofia which has a London showing on the 20th November, which will be a fun evening, so come down and check it out.
