French Open Preview - Draw shock as Nadal lands Zverev, Swiatek faces tricky path

Season 1, Ep. 418

Roland Garros has rolled into town and the Tennis Weekly trio are here to round up the men’s and women’s singles draws from the French Open! They go quarter by quarter to analyze the top seeds’ chances given their respective draws, and select some early showstopper clashes and rogue deep runs to look out for. They also make their (potentially terrible) quarter by quarter predictions before revealing this edition’s player picks for the famous Tennis Weekly Collect A Set competition.

Will Novak Djokovic regain some form to capture his fourth French Open? Will Rafael Nadal be able to overcome a nightmare first round clash with Sasha Zverev? Will Danielle Collins spoil the Iga Swiatek clay party?

Tune in to find out the thoughts of Tennis Weekly, and prepare yourselves for Roland Garros to begin!

  • 419. French Open R1 - Nadal's Paris reign ends, Murray in Brits wipeout, Swiatek-Osaka is ON

    01:11:24
Rain, roofs and Rafa! It’s time for an admittedly damp French Open Round 1 catch-up as Joel is joined by Chris live in Paris to look back on all the action from the first three days in Paris. It’s been an emotional last couple of days in tennis as Rafael Nadal bowed out of possibly his last Roland Garros to Alexander Zverev. Elsewhere, Andy Murray also exited with a losing effort to long time rival Stan Wawrinka and Alize Cornet got a home crowd career send off on Phillipe Chatrier. It wasn’t all retirement chat though as Paris saw easy return to tour victories for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner whilst Swiatek, Sabalenka and Rybakina all got their campaigns up and running with comfortable starts. This wasn’t the case though for British Tennis as the Brits endured a miserable few days on the clay. However this didn’t dampen spirits at Tennis Weekly HQ as Joel and Chris look forward to Round 2 and the exciting prospect of Swiatek vs. Osaka (!)BOODLES COMPETITIONTo enter our Boodles competition for a chance to win a pair of stadium tickets all you have to do is follow us on social media @tennisweeklypod, like our competition post and tag a friend that you would like to bring with you.Maximum 2 entries per person, one per social channel and competition closes on Saturday 1st June at midnight.
