Waking Up To Racism pt2

Season 2, Ep. 4
“See past my skin colour. Don't disrespect my skin colour. See that inside me is a human being that deserves respect and honour. Just like you deserve respect and honour. A level playing field."Waking Up To Racism. In the second part of my conversation with black friends and pastors Tony Ashley and Errol Lawson our conversation on black lives matter and racism expands. What is it going to take to bring about a change in our society? Continued dialogue and a deeper understanding by us all is vital. To see more than we have seen before so that we can interpret situations, conversations and news items in a different way. So that we can ask different questions and share our feelings without fear of retaliation. In the very same and real way that black people should not have to fear speaking up for themselves when opportunities are not extended to them, skills overlooked or they are again marginalised. The level too which I have not understood or considered racism has quite shocked me this week. Now is the time we all need to wake up to racism. This is the defining moment where every person steps up.As many posts have said “it is not enough to not be racist – we have to be anti-racist”.I didn’t want the conversation to be limited by time. As a result it is spread across two episodes. You can watch the whole conversation in the video on theYouTubeorFacebook page. Allow yourself to be part of the conversation - please comment, ask questions and share. You may think you have heard some of it before but for the first time I really started to imagine myself in that situation. Imagine my role as a Dad and how it would be different if I was black, for no other reason than my skin colour. I hope it hits home to you as it has done to me.And that is just the tip of theiceberg. There really is a lot to learn and understand. You will love this episode. Waking Up To Racism pt1

Season 2, Ep. 3
“A respectful communication. All I want is to be seen and be heard. To have others understand our experiences and our pain so we can find a solution.”Waking Up To Racism. The level too which I have not understood or considered racism has quite shocked me this week. Now is the time we all need to wake up to racism. This is the defining moment where every person steps up.Up until this moment that has not been me. I still do not know what that really means but my first endeavour was to increase my knowledge. My second was to arrange a live-stream with two black friends and Church leaders.I needed to wake up to what this subject is really about. As many posts have said “it is not enough to not be racist – we have to be anti-racist”.It’s uncomfortable. As I prepared for this Expert Hangout I did not feel excited and keen to do it like normal. Will it be awkward? Will I say the right thing? Ask the right question? Will I make it worse?I could have let it stop me. I think that is what we have all done for too long. I needed in some way to make a difference. Even if it was just too myself and my actions.I didn’t want the conversation to be limited by time. As a result it is spread across two episodes. You can watch the whole conversation in the video on the YouTube or Facebook page. George McGerhin S2 #2 - Mastering Success And Happiness

Season 2, Ep. 2
Season 2 #2 - a simply awesome interview with George McGerhin. Probably my most enjoyable interview. Such an inspiration and also a lot of fun.Living around 5 miles outside of New York City, George runs two super successful companies in the recruitment sector. His team effortlessly arranged our interview and he has them so well set up that he has just a couple of people reporting in to him who then manage down. Happily married with two young children, similar in age to my Jago and Rosie, George has his life set up such that he spends August in Peru each year.Oh, and he runs the odd ultra marathon just for kicks. That's about normally about 60 to 80 miles. Not bad for a guy that was once 23 stone (133kg)!So what does that kind of success take? Where did his motivation come from and how does he keep going? Not surprisingly, it has not all been plain sailing. We could have talked for hours and no doubt George will be back on to share more. We have also promised to grab a beer together next time he is in London. You will love this episode.
