24. 3 Concepts in Communication

Ep. 24

There is a bit of wind noise in this recording, I have reached the limit of my sound engineering lessons and need to go back down the rabbit hole. Thank you for your patience with me, Renee doesn't even TRY to help so it gets hard.

This week I go through analyzing the overlap in a couple different lessons in communication I've been learning recently. These lessons apply throughout your business, and probably with your kids!

I start with breaking down the main thesis of the book Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller which is to remember that everyone lives as the Hero/Main character of their own story and the more you can communicate that you are supporting them and making them have more success instead of making them share the spotlight or demote them to a supporting role the more psychological success you'll have.

Next I discuss the concept of the Inner Two-Year-Old from Zoe Chance's book Influence is Your Superpower, where she reminds us that no one wants to be told they are the villain or doing something wrong, and they definitely don't want to feel like the things they already have are being taken away so it's important to frame your communication in positive terms and emphasize wins and upsides.

Then I use the metaphor of spilled water to break down the idea of the path of least resistance and that any obstacles or inconveniences can subconsciously deter us and our clients and can be incredibly hard to predict (how is water under here?!?,) so it's important to watch for those, track them, correct them and make uptake on your advice or services as easy as possible. I also reference the discipline in Architectural that focuses on human behavior to try to predict and control the path of least resistance, and how hard it is.

When used together these concepts can make a huge impact on how quickly and easily clients understand and get on board with any proposal.

YES!Believe it or not, where you BANK is a big indicator of your overall Economic Sustainability because while your money sits in checking, savings, retirement, the institution you bank with is investing and recycling your money. By choosing who to bank with you indicate your priorities of where you want it invested (and how much of the profit goes back to you instead of making the bankers rich.)To see how your bank compares check out: https://mightydeposits.com/Follow @PositiveImpactEventConsulting on YouTube to get the video feed!To ask a question for a future walk email: AlyciaDrubeEvents {at} gmail.com or go to the Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSduKevDmLDOr2HhNORhM8giycd1VOOgYGObHXFyD_OhWFCtpQ/viewform?usp=sf_linkTo engage with Positive+Impact Event Consulting to make your Event Business and Events you work on more sustainable visit AlyciaDrube.comIf you'd like to subscribe to the podcast on your podcast app of choice check out the landing page: https://shows.acast.com/sustainable-events-dog-walk-podcastOr copy and paste: https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/673509b204b5d35af46eb38ato your preferred podcast app.

ONE SMALL CHANGE TODAYBehavioral Psychology (n) the study of the connection between the human mind and people's behavior.Bystander Effect: a phenomenon in which people fail to offer needed help in emergencies, especially when other people are present in the same setting. Studies of this tendency, initially described in response to well-publicized failures of bystanders to render aid in emergencies, have identified a number of psychological and interpersonal processes that inhibit helping, including misinterpreting other people’s lack of response as an indication that help is not needed, confusion of responsibility, and diffusion of responsibility.Follow @PositiveImpactEventConsulting on YouTube to get the video feed!To ask a question for a future walk email: AlyciaDrubeEvents {at} gmail.com or go to the Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSduKevDmLDOr2HhNORhM8giycd1VOOgYGObHXFyD_OhWFCtpQ/viewform?usp=sf_linkTo engage with Positive+Impact Event Consulting to make your Event Business and Events you work on more sustainable visit AlyciaDrube.comIf you'd like to subscribe to the podcast on your podcast app of choice check out the landing page: https://shows.acast.com/sustainable-events-dog-walk-podcastOr copy and paste: https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/673509b204b5d35af46eb38ato your preferred podcast app."
