From Comparison to Care

Scripture

“Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” (Galatians 5:26)

Explanation

Comparison destroys community. Conceit makes us think too highly of ourselves; envy makes us feel forgotten by God; provoking makes us compete spiritually. These are not personality problems — they are signs that the flesh is leading. When the Spirit leads, attention shifts from self to others. We begin to notice people instead of measuring ourselves against them.

The Spirit replaces comparison with compassion.

Reflection

We often evaluate conversations by how we sounded rather than how the other person felt. But love asks a different question: not “How did I appear?” but “Did I care?”

Personal Application

Choose one person today and focus completely on them. Listen longer than usual. Ask one meaningful question. Practice caring attention.
