When cellmates Rudy and Nick are just days from release, Nick dies protecting Rudy in a prison riot. When leaving lock up Rudy notices Ashley, a woman Nick had romantic correspondence with but had never met waiting outside and decides to take Nick's place. Unwittingly Rudy is violently coerced to cooperate with a Christmas Eve casino robbery scheme that Ashley's criminal brother has been planning with Nick's knowledge as the key.
