Sky King's Mental Playground
When Anime Becomes Culture with Kaylynn
Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPKAYLYNN
Anime is not a niche hobby and it is definitely not “for kids" it’s one of the sharpest storytelling engines on the planet. Kaylynn, aka Anime with KK, has built a career, a cosplay business, and a K-pop dance trio around proving that theory right, and today we put it to the test. We trace how a culture that got Hello Kittied after Hiroshima ended up exporting the biggest unifying force in youth culture worldwide, why the Jolly Roger from One Piece is showing up at protests across the globe, and why cosplay isn't costume play, it's identity work. Somewhere in the middle of arguing about Bleach, Sanji, and Usopp, we accidentally answer a much bigger question about why an entire generation needed somewhere else to go.

The WET Playground 2.0
58:31|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPWETI flew a plane through a thunderstorm when I was thirteen years old. My dad was asleep in the seat next to me, and all I wanted to do was get back to my Game Boy. That story is in here, and so is the story of losing him this year and how three guys who love you show up for that. This one's with the WET crew — Marcus, Justin, and Phil — the closest thing I have to a second podcast family, and we did what we always do: start with 2026 predictions, end up somewhere completely different. Grief, sobriety, growing up wealthy then broke, family alcoholism, and why business is the closest thing I have to art. We also talk about lookmaxxing streamers, the Genghis Khan gene, purchasing power parity, and enough unhinged tangents to make you forget we started with a squirrel attack. That's the show. It's chaos with a spine. Chris Williamson on Audience Capture, Conspiracy Theories & Losing to Jordan Peterson at Top Golf
01:56:50|Chris Williamson is a podcaster, YouTuber, and Ex-Professional Party Boy. I am immensely grateful that Chris is on this earth. As a creator, I believe he is doing an insane amount to help young men make sense of the world, as a friend he has been a beautiful combination of exceedingly fun and seriously helpful in how I navigate my life, and as a hero and mentor he has been a guiding light in how to, as he eloquently puts it, “locally reverse entropy.” Doing this podcast has made me strive to be better, oh so much better, at my craft because his ability to clearly articulate thoughts is honestly astounding. I would put him in league with Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris. When we hang out I don’t notice it, but in re-listening to this podcast, I have realized that everything he says could be a tweet thread.Chris has a reading list that includes the 100 most impactful books he has ever read. I can definitely vouch for almost all the books on this list. Becoming Present On Stage with Joe Begley
01:00:38|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPBEGLEYWhat if the thing killing creativity right now isn't talent or effort, but the simple fact that nobody has space to be bored anymore? Joe Begley and I start this one ranking the worst beers in America, what was supposed to be a loose, ridiculous beer review, turned into a real conversation about why social media has erased reflection, why "smelling VC money" on a coffee shop is a real and growing instinct in this generation, and why Steve Jobs' Apple literally couldn't be built today. Joe breaks down how a heart rate monitor accidentally became his therapist on stage, and I get into something I don't usually talk about publicly, about what it was like in the final stretch of caring for my dad and the small intimate moments nobody prepares you for craft versus scale, panic versus presence, and why the next generation might reject anything that smells like growth-at-all-costs.Follow Joe:Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@bigjoebegsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bigjoebegs/Tiktok: tiktok.com/@bigjoebegs04:00 Chasing Obsessions09:00 Social Media Focus Trap11:04 Viral Video Theory13:18 Keystone Origin Story17:01 Self-Pour Sadness19:34 Chinese Writing And Tones25:53 Korea Beer Terra Tasting29:43 Venture Capital Smell Test32:01 Strip Mall America33:45 Fake ID Glory Days36:30 Steve Jobs Couldn't Exist Today40:20 Comedy as Conspiracy43:43 Three Minute Bit Gamble47:49 Dad's Health Scare52:44 Skunked Beer Science55:31 Worst Beer Ever59:09 Xbox Is the Drug
How To Build True Strength Without Taking Shortcuts with Larry Maloney
01:15:32|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPMALONEYWhat if the biggest problem with AI, Ozempic, productivity hacks, and modern self improvement is that they work too well? In a culture obsessed with skipping steps, Larry Maloney argues that the struggle is the point. Larry and I explore why anime keeps teaching lessons Western media forgot, why gyms are becoming one of the last places people find real community, and how chasing optimization can quietly disconnect you from the very life you're trying to improve. From entrepreneurship and fitness to consciousness, parenting, technology, and the hero’s journey, this episode is a deep dive into agency, meaning, and what happens when people stop trusting the process. How Fatherhood, Physical AI, and a Failed VR Bet Built Evan Helda's Vision
01:01:17|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPHELDAPhysical AI isn't a trend, it's the convergence of everything that came before it: computer vision, spatial computing, simulation, and now generative models building entire digital worlds to train robots that will fix the healthcare shortage, staff the manufacturing gap, and maybe lower the cost of your groceries. Evan Helda, Head of Physical AI at Nebius, breaks down exactly what's in the tech stack, why VR's failure was actually the dress rehearsal for the robotics revolution, and why the real battleground right now isn't the models, it's culture. In the US, AI polling is tanking while China embraces it. One generation got TikTok instead of a college experience, and now they're booing the lifeboats. The way out, Evan argues, isn't propaganda, it's better stories. And maybe, with AI finally able to help everyone become their own Eiichiro Oda, those stories are coming.Follow Evan:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/evanhelda/X: https://x.com/evanheldaSubstack: https://substack.com/@dreammachinesai00:30 Final Words00:41 Fatherhood Changes You03:16 Death of the Fathe06:07 The Force Multiplier09:44 Why Evan Left AWS11:47 Founder Mode at Nebius15:32 Defining Physical AI17:14 The Five-Layer Stack22:17 Physical AI Economics24:25 AI's Cultural Backlash28:30 Forward-Deployed Builders30:54 West vs. China on AI35:43 Technology Is Deflationary40:46 The Science of Awe45:07 One Piece Deep Dive50:16 AI Unlocks the Oda in You54:44 Helping Dad Mine Lithium57:22 Science Fiction & Blocks

What Kuma Taught Me About Being a Father
01:02:07|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPSOLOWar is the most entertaining thing humans have ever created, and that's not my opinion, that's physics. From Gilgamesh to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, we have never been able to look away. But something shifted. Social media removed the last bit of friction between the attention war generates and the money it makes, and now every company is going to monetize your fear, your grief, and your moral outrage simultaneously. I don't know if there's a way out. But I think you need to know it's happening. This episode goes deep on why China is actively working to make AI unpopular in the United States, why the college debt bubble was a trillion-dollar trap that locked millennials out of capitalism, and what the Kuma arc in One Piece teaches us about fatherhood, sacrifice, and finding meaning when the world is engineered to break you. If you make it to the end, you'll know why I'm seriously considering buying three robotaxis and why it's also keeping me up at night.Follow Sky:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamaskykingYouTube: https://youtube.com/@skykingsmentalplaygroundTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@skykingsmentalplayground00:42 War Is Content03:00 Hemingway At War05:30 War's Economic Engine06:49 Horseshoe Theory10:12 War Content Converts14:15 AI Unpopular In America18:47 Western Values In AI22:00 Starlink Changed Everything27:30 Eric Weinstein Dream Guest28:06 Physics Of Information32:27 One Piece Is The GOAT38:53 The Deal With The Devil40:38 Bonney Becomes Nika44:33 Robotaxi Ethics47:06 Moral Weight Of Ownership52:19 College Value Prop Dead55:19 Locked Out Of Capitalism01:00:27 AI Haves And Have-Nots01:01:04 Make A Dollar With AI
The Next Evolution Of Humanity with Razib Khan
56:22|Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPKHANWhat happens when a geneticist steps into the center of Austin’s techno-cultural renaissance and starts asking the questions everyone else is too afraid to touch? In this new episode of SKMP, Razib Khan joins us for a wild, deeply intelligent conversation spanning CRISPR, evolution, AI, gene editing, open-source technology, SpaceX billionaires, Austin’s transformation into a new frontier city, and the future of humanity itself. From whether evolution can be “proven” through DNA, to the ethics of designer babies, Neuralink vs biological enhancement, and why future generations may normalize genetic engineering the same way we normalized IVF this episode feels less like a podcast and more like a glimpse into the next 30 years.Follow Razib:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/razibkX: https://twitter.com/razibkhan Substack: https://www.razibkhan.com00:10 Furries and Biohacking00:39 Proving Evolution With DNA02:19 How Culture Changes Our DNA06:50 CRISPR & Editing Human Genes08:58 "Super Babies” & Public Fear16:18 Could Humans Become Furries?21:02 Is China Ahead in Genetics?23:13 Austin Tech Culture Shift30:17 Feeling Behind in Your 20s34:43 Timing Waves And Going All In37:42 Open Source Products And Hardware43:12 What Humans Still Do Better Than AI49:31 AI Doom Energy Limits53:26 The Weird Future of Humanity54:31 Listen to the Full Podcast in Supercast
