Heather’s love of food and wine saw her roped into the Shepparton Festival quite early on, but joining the committee seemed a bit daunting as her calendar was already quite full.

Regardless, she took the plunge and in the second year was the inaugural festival coordinator – a role which she held for about 10 years.

    Shepparton News’ John Lewis was there right from the start as a spectator 25 years ago. John describes the festival as something dear to his heart as there wasn’t a whole lot happening in terms of public arts events for the community to come together and celebrate in the mid ‘90s. He’s now a life member of the festival, but he’s also the first to admit he wasn’t one of those ‘hands-on’ members putting in time after work and weekends. “I was more going along as a media person to show my support and give the events some publicity,” he laughed.     As the first ever Greater Shepparton City Council conventions and performing arts manager, Rob Robson was there to see the legwork of former council staff in getting a Community arts Management Board and a festival. “There were many, many meetings through the years of 94-95.
