Controversy as Allegri's Juventus defeats Mourinho's Roma

Season 1, Ep. 6
Controversy struck Serie A this past weekend (surprise surprise!) as Roma scored a goal that was disallowed for a penalty kick in their favour, which was subsequently missed and Juventus won. Nobody knew what was going on, especially when Jose Mourinho didn't rage about it.Then upon Simone Inzaghi's return to the Stadio Olimpico, Inter got mad over Lazio not kicking the ball out when their player was faking an injury. It all got a bit crazy. Then a red card came out after the match and who'd be a referee?!?!Elsewhere, an excellent comeback from 2 goals down saw the agony and the ecstasy of football: an impressive Milan victory secured with a heartbreaking own-goal in the Verona net, and emotional scenes after the match as the forgotten man of Milanello, Samuel Castillejo, produced a fine performance to help rescue his team and earn the adulation of San Siro, Silvio Pioli and his team mates.Victor Osimhen inspired Napoli to their 8th win in a row to keep up their winning record and stay on top of the Serie A table. And then Nicky and Mina review the "Footballgate" episode of the new Netflix documentary series "Bad Sport", in which Mina Rzouki is featured, detailing the calciopoli scandal that saw the biggest upheaval in the history of Italian football.01:00 Juventus v Roma21:10 Lazio v Inter32:30 Supporters shoutout36:00 Milan v Verona50:00 Napoli v Torino58:50 Bad Sport Netflix discussionDon't forget our ChroniclesQ&A mailbag show on Friday.Tweet us your questions to @serieAchronpod with the hashtag #ChroniclesQandAFor sponsorship opportunities with Serie A Chronicles podcast email marketing@mediachronicles.com.au.Find Serie A Chronicles on social media (all the links here) and at our website serieachronicles.com.Please give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

Chronicles Q&A #4

Season 1
Get your questions in for Mina and Nicky for the Serie A Chronicles Q&A show. Each week we answer your questions tweeted to us at @serieAchronpod using the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA.This week's questions:Question for Mina- Do you feel Juve’s current midfield depth is conducive to what Allegri is trying to do?For Nikki- I think Inter overpaid for Correa. I don’t see him being more than a spark player off the bench but not someone who can eventually replace Dzeko, do you?-INTERtwined @rtwined (Tampa, Florida)Is there a non superstar player that you always wanted at your club? Mine was always Arda Turan to come to Juve. Always thought he was wasted at Barca. Mandzukic was the other but that came true and he was amazing.-Francesco @Malickfan (London)I don't know why a mid-table team didn't come for Simi Nwankwo after all his goal exploits, and also why did Caputo move from a mid level team to Sampdoria? Is it that there's no need for strikers in the league?-Lumzy @olumidesadams (Lagos)Which was the first Non-Domestic (or team you didn't follow) football shirt that you bought? Mine was a Juventus shirt in the 80s from a stall in Majorca.-Barfly Sports @BarflyCoaches**********Find Serie A Chronicles on social media (all the links here and now we're also on Telegram) and at our website serieachronicles.com.Please give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

No Totti No Poddy as Italy Takes Nations League Bronze

Season 1, Ep. 5
This week we deep-dive on Italy's third place at the UEFA Nations League Finals held in Milan and Turin, particularly the semi-final match loss against Spain and the many talking points which arose from Mancini's Azzurri finally having an end to their unbeaten run. It was fun while it lasted! Some of the topics to come out of Italy's two matches:How did Roberto Mancini's men match up tactically with Luis Enrique's Spain?Gianluigi Donnarumma jeered by the home crowd at his first trip back to San Siro since signing for PSG in the summer.Italy's striking options going forward. What is the best combination for an Italy midfield brimming with an abundance of talent?Nicky and Mina heap praise on Nicolò Barella after his sweet volley to open the scoring against Belgium, and what of the rumours of Premier League sides targeting Federico Chiesa? We preview a couple standout matches from the upcoming matchday 8 of Serie A: Lazio v Inter and Juventus v Roma. It's the stories of the managers with Simone Inzaghi visting his old stomping ground, and Mina is on the edge of her seat with anticipation at the mouthwatering clash of managerial styles between Juve's Massimiliano Allegri and Roma's Jose Mourinho. And then it's all about the legend... the King of Roma and 2006 World Cup champion, Francesco Totti, as Nicky Bandini had the recent privilege of interviewing Il Capitano for The Guardian to discuss his career and his autobiography being published in English. An absolutely fascinating conversation about the man, which must not be missed.Read Nicky's excellent article: Francesco Totti: ‘In my time football was made of love. Today it’s more business’.You can order Totti's book, titled Gladiator, in The Guardian Bookshop.Don't forget our ChroniclesQ&A mailbag show on Friday.Tweet us your questions to @serieAchronpod with the hashtag #ChroniclesQandAFind Serie A Chronicles on social media (all the links here and now we're also on Telegram) and at our website serieachronicles.com.Please give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

Chronicles Q&A #3

Season 1
Get your questions in for Mina and Nicky for the Serie A Chronicles Q&A show. Each week we answer your questions tweeted to us at @serieAchronpod using the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA.This week's questions:Out of Chiesa and Zaniolo which one do you think can play more central? The trequartista role. Personally I think they both could and possibly should.-theangrycobbler @theangrycobbler I look at the top teams in Serie A this year and think to myself: "I can’t picture any of them with the Scudetto this year" - they all have clear limitations. Is the title dependent on team x making the fewest mistakes, because on their day each of them can blow their opposition away?-Ethan Henson @ethanhenson0 (East Midlands)What's going to stop Jose's Roma becoming the Europa Conference winners? Can't see him letting the new European trophy slip.-Aaron @GrumpySod84 (Dublin)Which of the promoted teams have the best chance of avoiding the drop? Empoli look the more polished and solid yet Venezia have some attacking pace and threat and Salernitana have purchased (potentially well) with their attacking options bolstered by SIMY, Ribery and Bonazzoli.-JWM_Football @jwm_football (Scotland)**********Find Serie A Chronicles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and at our website serieachronicles.com.Subscribe to Serie A Chronicles on the Acast app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Find all the links here.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

A Proposal and a Loca Goal as Juventus Stole 'La Mole'

Season 1, Ep. 4
It was a week of the big teams winning away from home as a late Manuel Locatelli strike stole the derby della Mole, a.k.a. the Turin derby, for Juventus away at Torino, before the man of the moment later proposed to his girlfriend that night to cap off his winning goal exploits. In a nice touch, we learn a bit more about our hosts as Mina and Nicky begin the episode with something different, by telling personal stories of their football fandom. Also up for discussion is Milan's victory in Bergamo over Atalanta, and how good can this Milan team become? And has Napoli done enough yet to convince Mina and Nicky that they are the real deal after a 7th consecutive victory to begin the Serie A season, this time away at Fiorentina in a match that was marred by what Nicky describes as a crushing racial abuse incident directed at Napoli players. Then Mina is "loca" for Locatelli and Juve stringing together some excellent 1-0 wins, her favourite scoreline, over Chelsea in mid-week Champions League action and then in the derby, before Inter stages a comeback at Sassuolo with Edin Dzeko on fire.Lazio is incredibly smashed at Bologna, while Roma has a solid home win after Lorenzo Pellegrini penned a new contract extension.Nicky has praise for Sampdoria's Antonio Candreva staging his one-man goal of the season competition after yet another worldie in yet another 3-3 draw with Udinese, and we end on Roberto Mancini's Azzurri squad ins and outs as they prepare to face Spain in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League in San Siro.Look out for next week's episode of Serie A Chronicles where we'll go in depth on Italy's matches to potentially see them lift a second European trophy in the space of a few months.Don't forget our ChroniclesQ&A mailbag show on Friday.Tweet us your questions to @serieAchronpod with the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA00:00 Mina's and Nicky's football fandom08:10 Shoutout to our tifosi10:35 Atalanta v Milan (2-3)25:00 Fiorentina v Napoli (1-2)40:10 Torino v Juventus (0-1)52:05 Sassuolo v Inter (1-2)57:50 Bologna v Lazio (3-0)59:25 Roma v Empoli (2-0)60:45 Sampdoria v Udinese (3-3)61:50 UEFA Nations League semi-final: Italy squadSubscribe and listen in each Tuesday as we put our own unique spin on all things calcio.Find Serie A Chronicles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and at our website serieachronicles.com.Subscribe to Serie A Chronicles on the Acast app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Find all the links here.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

Chronicles Q&A #2

Season 1
Get your questions in for Mina and Nicky for the Serie A Chronicles Q&A show. Each week we answer your questions tweeted to us at @serieAchronpod using the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA.This week's questions:Mina has spoken in the past about the mentality of certain clubs not being up to task (eg, Napoli…w/ last season’s finale as exhibit A). But is it possible to pinpoint where a culture like that starts and ends? Are these problems down to a coach? Owner? Region? #ChroniclesQandA-Kyle Bagin @KBag1n (Washington DC)Should Juve let Dybala’s contract run out in June given the timing of this latest injury? What forwards should they try to sign in January and/or the summer? #ChroniclesQandA-Paleo Pizza @PizzaPaleoLoving the show, both deep dive and the Q&A's. My question to you is, do you think the league can get back to the status it had in the 90's, and how they could do it? Grazie-Ben Macleod @FakeBenMacleodWhy hasn't Insigne signed a contract extension at Napoli? Is it another ADL power play?-Antonio Romano @A_R_R_6_6_6 (UK)**********Find Serie A Chronicles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and at our website serieachronicles.com.Subscribe to Serie A Chronicles on the Acast app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Find all the links here.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.

1-nil down and trying to defend it

Season 1, Ep. 3
The podcast just keeps getting better as this week we have an exciting Serie A Chronicles after a high scoring round of Italian football which saw 35 goals in 10 matches. It was an enthralling Derby della Capitale which went the way of Sarri's Lazio. Mina and Nicky discuss the contrast between them and Mourinho's Roma, as well as the two managers themselves. We discuss the rise of Lautaro Martínez for Inter since Romelu Lukaku's departure, after he scored a dream volley against La Dea, and is Atalanta back to being the exciting team we have come to expect under Gasperini?Nicky trashes Walter Mazzari's Cagliari as Napoli beat them in Lorenzo Insigne's 400th match for the Napolitani, and we hear about some crazy antics by Luciano Spalletti in his past travels, while Mina has high praise for the Partenopei's Victor Osimhen. Can Juve become the Juve of 9-scudetti-in-a-row quality now that they are back to winning ways, albeit narrowly? And will Paulo Dybala be missed after yet another injury in their victory over Sampdoria in which he scored from a beautiful strike?Mina describes her disappointment in Samp despite being a big fan of manager Roberto D'Aversa.Milan win away at Spezia with a first start and goal by Daniel Maldini, the third generation of the Maldini dynasty, and Mina gives us a brief background on Spezia's 19 year old French starlet Janis Antiste. We have a chuckle about Mattia Destro scoring a goal while holding a bottle of water in Genoa's crazy 3-3 draw with Verona, and newsreaders clinging to reams of paper while presenting the daily news! Can Igor Tudor save Verona from the drop? Also a discussion about the number of goals in Serie A, now with the highest average across the major European leagues. Does this say anything about the quality of defending? And Fiorentina earn an away win in Udine in a "hideous" match.Don't forget our ChroniclesQ&A mailbag show, which will be dropping on FRIDAY this week!Tweet us your questions to @serieAchronpod with the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA00:00 The Rome derby: Lazio and Roma17:50 Inter and Atalanta29:40 Napoli and Cagliari37:00 Is Juventus all fixed and fine?44:00 Disapointing Samp45:20 Milan's Maldini dynasty49:20 Nothing sinister about Destro bottling it, right?53:40 An ugly shade of Viola*** We're now on Podbean so download the app and subscribe! ***Subscribe and listen in each Tuesday as we put our own spin on all things calcio.Find Serie A Chronicles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and at our website serieachronicles.com.Subscribe to Serie A Chronicles on the Acast app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Find all the links here.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.
