March 22 2024 - Frank Seravalli & Jeff Paterson

Ep. 773

The Canucks continue to set the pace atop the Pacific with a win over Montreal, and Nikita Zadorov takes his turn in the spotlight. Matt and Blake discuss the biggest night of Zadorov’s Canucks career as the big defenceman paces the team with two 1st period goals en route to the 4-1 win. The guys can’t help but wonder if nights like that might change the narrative that he’s just a rental for this season.

They bring in the Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli for his thoughts on that, and how it might intertwine with the Flip Hronek negotiations. Also, Frank’s hysterical thoughts on the soap opera that is John Tortorella’s Flyers squad.

Rink Wide: Vancouver host Jeff Paterson peeks in with a full post-game report, with more on Casey DeSmith’s fine effort, and the overall defensive play of late. All this and more, including the latest edition of “To the People We Go”, as we bring you some of the latest feedback from our viewers and listeners. Presented by Applewood Auto Group.

  • 1814. Jan 15, 2026: Rutherford x 2! Rebuild x ??

    01:25:05||Ep. 1814
    The Canucks may be about to play the Blue Jackets but all the action on today's show was about the duelling Jim Rutherford interviews in the Vancouver media yesterday. Blake and Jeff Paterson take you through the ebbs and flows of the two sit-downs, and what it appears to mean for the future of the Canucks. The guys debate what the messaging is to the fanbase and whether it was received well by the Canucks faithful. Also, the Canucks may be about to get a couple of injured players back soon. DFO Insider David Pagnotta also joins the show to get into the insinuated rebuild of the Canucks. David goes over the roster of possible trades, and whether truly "everyone" is available. He outlines the scenarios that could lead to a Hronek or EP40 trade, and also the few players that have a hot market that's building. The guys also get into the latest on the Whitecaps and Tristan Blackmon, the Caps sign a new player, a new Canadian World Cup tune up match, and the CFL's Olympic plan!Thank you to our great sponsors:@bet365: It's never ordinary! 8 straight losses for the Canucks after the latest defeat in Ottawa, so Matt and Blake look at what continues to plague the team, and the broadening fallout of their recent play. The guys also look at the improved play of Elias Pettersson and whether that's a sign that the team should keep him or explore a trade as the market improves. Then it's former Canucks exec. Laurence Gilman dropping by to discuss his new role with the Columbus Blue Jackets. LG gets into the details of the gig, the role of culture on NHL team, and Kent Johnson's possible turnaround this season. Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects also stops by to chat about the NHL trade market and the interest in additions from Jersey to MSG to Carolina. Cam jumps into the latest draft projections too and on the ascension of Stenberg to Number 1. Plus, he looks at two centres who may or may not have a shot at cracking the top 3. All that, plus Matt and Blake check in on the Whitecaps before they leave for Spain, the Seahawks/49ers injury report and the CFL abolishes the tie?!Thank you to our great sponsors:@bet365: It's never ordinary! Plus, there are injury updates on Sherwood and Demko, trade rumours abound and the Canucks have another Olympian in the organization. RinkWide's Jeff Paterson jumps in to join the guys and discuss what he saw in Montreal. JPat weighs in on the lack of scoring from the veterans with big contracts, the goaltending performance of Tolipilo, the risk of a losing culture, and Adam Foote's role in all of this. Jeff talks about Manny Malhotra's possible succession plan as well and whether waiting too long to make trades is going to come back and bite the Canucks. The guys wrap up the show with a final look at NFL Wild card weekend, Canadian mens soccer players going in opposing directions this season, and Kyle Lowry getting labeled the "GROAT".Thank you to our great sponsors:@bet365: It's never ordinary!
