Sekeres & Price Show

July 15 2024 - Jim Hughson & Paul Dolan

Ep. 866

A WILD weekend in sports provides plenty of content for Matt and Blake today. The two local teams, the Lions and Whitecaps, were both dominant winners and continue hot streaks. Plus, all the soccer you can handle from Copa and Euro. The guys also get into a recent poll that shows the Canucks as a “liked" team by objective observers.

Former voice of HNIC Jim Hughson stops by to discuss the Canucks season and what he expects going forward, and he talks about what it’s like to follow a Canadian team on a roll in the playoffs. Also, as chairman of the board for the BC HHOF, he talks about the induction of Shea Weber and Carey Price this weekend.

Then it’s longtime Canadian player and coach Paul Dolan to chat about Canada at the Copa, the two big finals, and the Whitecaps winning ways. It’s a big show!

  • 1907. Mar 3, 2026: Canucks dig below rock bottom and still no trades

    01:47:43||Ep. 1907
    After a night to forget at Rogers Arena, Matt and Blake take on the lowest of lows for the Canucks and the current culture inside the team. The guys look at the Messier era, Miller vs EP40, and where they are now. They debate who on this team has any value for acquiring teams before the deadline and whether this management team will be able to get any business done. RinkWide's Jeff Paterson joins to share his thoughts after watching the lack of effort last night, and how the Elias Pettersson that we once marveled at, has turned into what we see now. Jeff talks about the vibes around yesterday's media scrum with Pettersson and where this player goes from here with 6 years left on his contract. Plus, the guys wonder if management and coaches suffer consequences because of EP40's lack of production. Then it's Cam Robinson from Elite Prospects, who has updates on a number of fronts before the trade deadline. Cam also gives us the latest in the seasons of Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg, plus, he has his top NCAA free agent options for the Canucks to sign this spring. Then Matt and Blake get into the Whitecaps leading MLS in a key metric, the World Cup is facing some uncomfortable realities, and the World Baseball Classic is almost here with the Canadian squad missing some familiar faces.Thank you to our great sponsors:@bet365: It's never ordinary! • 1904. Mar 2, 2026: The deadline dance continues for Canucks, so does the losing

    01:51:37||Ep. 1904
    After a quiet weekend surrrounding trades for the Canucks, Matt and Blake begin to tackle the possibility that the team can't pull of the business they had hoped for before the trade deadline. The guys look at the current state of affairs around Tyler Myers decision on the Wings, and where any other talks may be headed. After murmurs of interest in Elias Pettersson, the guys debate whether pure cap relief is enough for him vs actually getting assets in return. We hear what Adam Foote thought of EP40's effprt vs Seattle but we also hear from Pettersson on that topic, and on what he thinks of any trade rumours. TSN Insider Darren Dreger brings us the very latest on the possibility of an EP40 trade and what he thinks the Canucks want out of it. He also has the latest on Myers' decision on Detroit and the hope for Dallas to be involved. Dregs checks the pulse on others too, like Kane, Blueger and Boeser! Irfaan Gaffar from DFO Insider has his info as well, and thinks the Canucks will be hardpressed to make a bunch of deals. Irf gets into the feelings of Boeser on moving, Myers' reluctance on Detroit, and the pressure on management to make something happen. Plus, Irf isn't optimistic on a new practice facility quite yet either. The guys wrap the show with a look at a dominating victory for the Whitecaps over TFC with Müller leading the way. Plus, the Warriors are on a winning streak in the NLL, the Seahawks still need a running back, and a small BC town has just won a provincial hoops title!Thank you to our great sponsors:@bet365: It's never ordinary! 01:53:55||Ep. 1901
    The waiting game continues for Canucks fans, as the team and its players ponder a multitude of offers. Matt and Blake have the latest on who is a possibility to be moved, now and in the next week. The guys talk about the curious PR decisions from the Dice and Ice event last night, and the comments from President Jim Rutherford yesterday, who shed some light on expectations within the club. The guys are joined live from practice by RinkWide's Jeff Paterson who has the lay of the land there, and the possible lineup for tomorrow in Seattle. Jeff talks about what the final quarter of the season could look like depending on the side of exodus at the deadline. Then it's Jeff Marek of The Sheet with his take on the value of Canucks players league wide. He talks about what he would expect for Tyler Myers and he offers up interesting theories on where EP40 and Jake DeBrusk could fit in.
