Seaside Pod Review (A Queen Podcast)
Tenement Funster
It's a Roger tune. It's from Sheer Heart Attack. It's a song The Cardinal does not know, so Kev gets to watch his pal hear the song for the first time. We get into the weeds about endings and medleys and solos, oh my! There's more talk about Metallica's drummer (honestly, this is the last week!) and Randy reveals why he didn't buy his wife a Christmas present this year. He also gets all emotional about a rescue. It's pathetic, to be frank.
If Randy were to title this episode, he’d probably call it "Rog', just turn down the stereo!" or maybe "Mr. Randy really fucking blew it this time..."
Today's episode covers Roger's solo contribution to "Sheer Heart Attack" and he's wearing purple shoes. It's time to check in with the "Tenement Funster".
NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 33:51
Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter, Facebook, and BlueSky! 9. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
This week's song wraps up Side A of "The Game" and it's the last song we'll cover from this flawless album. If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "Una cosita loca llamada amor", or possibly, "Se sacude por todas partes como una medusa"NOTE: Skip forward to 23:57 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the lead track from Randy Woods Band's debut album. It's a superb track titled "Breakdown In Kindness" and it happens to be one of Kev's very favourite songs that Randy has ever written. But don't anyone go telling him that because we're men. And men don't compliment each other! 8. Holy F*** It's a Music Podcaster!
01:12:05||Season 18, Ep. 8Back in May of 2020, Randy and Kev took their first baby steps into the podcasting world. They had no goddamn clue what they were doing and only one of them had a decent mic! We figured the best way to start a podcast would be to see if we were any good at interviews, or even speaking into microphones. Randy had to edit, Kev had to do artwork and no one listened... or watched. Because folks, we put this fucker up on Youtube! We couldn't record this week so inspirted by the wonderful suggestion by Barry John Williams' , here is the very first podcast Randy and Kev ever recorded! If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it “I was in peak physical condition back then” or possibly, “But it helps if your microphone is pointing the right way…..”The music at the end of the episode is from Absofunkinlutely's "red album", Blues Kid City. It's the sizzling hot instrumental titled "Moose Jaw Coleslaw". I've been to Moose Jaw and I've had the coleslaw. It was excellent. Just like this song. 7. Play the Game
01:06:58||Season 18, Ep. 7There once was a man in VancouverWhose appendage got stuck in the hooverHe said, with a shout, "Get it out, get it out!!!"Before trying the Heimlich maneuver!Randy's away, Kev's home, and we're covering the opening track, "Play the Game", from 1980's triumphant masterpiece, The Game. Also, Obi Wan Kenobi? Weird! If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it “Play the Game”, or possibly, “Don’t play baseball. Tis a boring game!” !NOTE: Skip forward to 31:27 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is from Absofunkinlutely's "black album", Residential Gas Leak. It's called Tell Me. I told you. Now go and listen to it here: https://youtu.be/l4qFPhc1Te0If you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 6. Oddball Dance
53:36||Season 18, Ep. 6We're not gonna lie. You'll probably hate this song. It's far too sophisticated for the type of primitive Def Leppard loving classic classic rock fan we seem to mainly attract. You'll probably be waiting for a face-melting guitar solo followed by a lyric about a boobs. Well, Corey, you're gonna be disappointed mate because this is closer to Art Garfunky than it is to Monogene Simmons! If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Oddball Dance", or possibly, "What in the hairy green fuck did we just listen to?"The twenty third installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by and anonymous KoFi regular - and if you're out there in the wilds of the internet and this suddenly pops up on your podcast feed, do let us know who you are so we can say a proper thanks! This one is from a band, City Boy, who neither of us had heard of and the song is called "Oddball Dance!"The song at the end is the Randy Woods Band barn burner entitled "Blame Shifter". You can find it here: https://youtu.be/O9Op-WQe0EUIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 5. White Queen (As It Began)
01:03:47||Season 18, Ep. 5Duke of Aquitaine, Tierce de Picardie was an eighteenth century French nobleman who's primary economic interest was excavating gold from the deep reserves that lay under the fields of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in the pagus of Limousin. In his mid forties, he relinquished his titles and lands in order to conscript into the French army in order to fight for the crown against the revolutionary forces, achieving the rank of major before falling during the Siege of Toulon. If you get this joke, you REALLY need to get out more!If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "As it Began" or possibly, "How it's Going"!NOTE: Skip forward to 24:53 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is a statement about the fucking stupidity and selfishness of war by Absofunkinlutely. It's titled "Perpetual War" and you can find it here: https://youtu.be/TqxJe4hAFBMIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 4. My Melancholy Blues
55:37||Season 18, Ep. 4Read about the things that happen throughout the world. Don't be believing in everything you see or hear. Read all about it, read all about it. News of the world, news of the world! Yep, we're heading back to the year nineteen hundred and seventy seven to talk about our last track and the last track from Queen's stupendously brilliant News of the World. The album is currently sitting at a one hundred percent rating, but will it be able to complete the hundo pee and finish strongly? Where's that confounded bridge? What's the chorus? And will Randy thirty nine this one out of spite? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and.... oh wait, wrong podcast! If Kev were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "Melancholy blues" or possibly, "Perspicacious greens!"NOTE: Skip forward to 23:53 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is one Kev's favourite songs that his friend Randy wrote and he really hopes it wasn't written about him! It's Charisma Free and it's off the first Randy Woods Band album and you should go listen to it NOW! https://youtu.be/s5bhRgcAjqIIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 3. Liar
01:06:44||Season 18, Ep. 3"Trump's gotta be careful with all these lies, man. Let me tell you a story Dara, about a little boy named Pinocchio. He was a little wooden puppet who came to life because he was possessed by a demon. And he would go around and he would lie to everyone cos of the devil. And then all the villagers, they put him on a bonfire and they burned his soul to ash. And Trump should learn, you... never trust a puppet."- James Acaster on the song we're spinning today (I think...)From rocking town to town to washing freezer bags ... one thing leads to another! Well, it's not a "Greatest Hit", but it is a great song. Unless you savagely butcher it and reduce to less than half its length. But what kind of utter fucking muppet would do something that stupid? We're looking at you America! It's another corker from the debut album. It's another Freddie track. It's only "Liar"!If Randy were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "A great six minute tune" or possibly, "Does Roger even own a fucking tambourine?"NOTE: Skip forward to 20:16 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the sensational groove-soaked rocker "Space Queen", which is kinda fitting when you hear the outro..... Go watch it NOW or risk the very safety of your immortal soul! https://youtu.be/pq_mCwY_a6YIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 2. Tramp
50:55||Season 18, Ep. 2Stax. Otis Redding. Carla Thomas. Booker T. Jones. Isaac Hayes. Steve Cropper. Donald Dunn. Al Jackson Jr. Wayne Jackson. 1967. King and Queen. Lowell Fulson. How much more soul can you be? The answer is "none"; "None more soul"!If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Tramp", or possibly, "Minks and rats and frogs and squirrels and rabbits, oh my!"The twenty second installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by Kofi regular Al Dudeney, who is catering very much to the Cardinal's tastes here with a late 60s duet between the legendary Otis Redding and Carla Thomas; "Tramp" from the last studio album Otis recorded before his tragic, untimely death, "King and Queen". The song at the end is the Randy Woods Band horn-led remake of Absofunkinlutely's classic cut "Grow Your Love". 1. Seven Seas of Rhye
01:02:54||Season 18, Ep. 1Kev finds out that Nshima isn't the name of some peculiar rash that Randy picked up in Zambia, but rather, a corn meal porridge that Randy... picked up in Africa. Again, and again, and again. The Cardinal is back and he's here to regale us with tales of boom mics and bad burgers! And you know what, he didn't even get a tan! Ah well, the next time he flies across a couple of seas, maybe he'll cross five more and get a story out of it. We're spinning up a monster. A greatest hit. Maybe the wider world's first real taste of that delicious flavour that we call "None more Queen"! Freddie wrote it, Brian helped, and everyone played the ever loving shit out of it. Also, my Uncle Frank was well impressed with it! It's time to get nautical and mythical as we travel to the Seven Seas of Rhye!If Randy were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "Dude, this is a great tune", or possibly, "They just don't write like that anymore!"NOTE: Skip forward to 21:07 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the bitingly topical "Big Brother" from Absofunkinlutely's red album, Blues Kid City. Randy gets political and lays out why a surveillance state is a really fucking bad idea. It's also got a killer, KILLER groove! Go lay it down here : https://youtu.be/Yq3LsEABrnQIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel!
