I didn't know where to start with this episode so I ended up just closing my eyes and flicking through my selection of tunes. I decided that whatever I landed on was what I would start with. As luck would have it, the fates chose a solid tribal-drum banger from Eric Kupper. What a fantastic place to start! From there it was a steady job of building a set on the fly which is always fun. And we're back with another multi-genre mix of old house music. It was a close shave this one, all very last minute and at the time of recording I didn't think it was going to be worth sharing. Fortunately a re-listen the following day with fresh ears confirmed that it was another good-to-go mix. "Rhythm is a Mystery" and other five star choice cuts of house music in this episode of Retro House Mixtape.I don't know if you know this... but it has been a bit hot lately. Like, REALLY hot. So hot in fact that I almost couldn't get this episode recorded. The "studio" where I record these episodes was clocking in at 32 degrees C everyday. There was no way I was going to be able to record a set in that heat. Fortunately I managed to hold on for a cooler window and get this mixtape down. And I'm glad I did because this episode is a STORMER! Some absolutely sublime blends are happening throughout this mix. Hello there! It's another 60 minute mix of lovely old house music from the 90's and early 2000's. I really enjoyed putting this episode together. There are some long transitions in the first half of the mix where the tracks just kind of melt into each other (that being said, the mix into 'Out of Control' does get a bit wobbly for a moment thanks to a technical issue). Then the energy switches up at the mid-way point and everything kicks up a gear for the finale. After the Trance shenanigans of the previous episode we are back into the normal Retro House antics for this mixtape. Starting with a garage-esque groove before slipping into some funky house tracks. Way back in 2021 I did a one-off Trance episode of Retro House Mixtape, imaginatively called "Retro Trance Mixtape". Surprisingly it was a very popular episode, pulling in really good numbers alongside all the normal house music episodes.Since bringing the show back online earlier this year I'd been thinking about doing a follow up Trance episode. By complete coincidence I've ended up doing one on what is essentially the 5-year anniversary of the previous Retro Trance Mixtape. What are the odds? Here we have got ten absolute barnstorming Trance tracks over 60 minutes. My stand-out favourite is the Akira Kayosa remix of System F's "Out Of The Blue". We are indeed Tripping on Sunshine for this episode.Seeing as we are going through a belter of a heatwave here in the UK, I thought I would put together a sunshine themed mix. Every main track in this mix references the sun in some way or another (not so much the accapellas, maybe think of those as more of a garnish).It's quite the euphoric sound for this mix, not very deep but lots of uplifting vibes. Yeah I missed putting out an episode last week. Sorry about that. Hopefully this banger of an episode makes up for it.I've gone for a lower tempo for this episode. starting at around the 120bpm range where things have little more of a disco feel to them. There's a favourite tune of mine early in the mix, "Number 1" by Playgroup. I very much recommend checking out the excellent music video that goes with the song. Finishing off the mix is a big hands-in-air anthem "U Sure Do" from Strike. Almost verging into cheese really, but this remix is something I used to play out a lot at the time and I think it sits nicely at the end of this episode.Heard a tune you like?
