Rereading the Revolution
Sunrise on the Reaping | "It's Been a Long Time Coming"
“I was genuinely afraid…I might throw up from crying so hard.”
It’s the one you’ve all been waiting for…everything for the past three months has led to this. We’re joined by very special guest Emma Skies to discuss the most anticipated release since we launched our podcast, Sunrise on the Reaping (2025!).
We return to District 12 one more time to cover our initial thoughts and reactions, fan theories, Panem and America, Suzanne Collins and Lionsgate’s balance between art and commerce, and what this book means to The Hunger Games series’ legacy. We lose track of how many times we use the words "brutal" and "devastating." This is our longest episode yet and we easily could’ve talked about this book for another hour because there’s so much to dig into!
Correction: Francis Lawrence is coming back for the 5th time as director if you count the Mockingjays separately!
Correction 2: I just learned that we’ve been pronouncing azure wrong. Oops.

The Death Cure | “The Boys Are Fighting” (Sneak Peek)
05:04|“Seventy-three chapters don’t write themselves!"We’re officially wrapping up the Maze Runner trilogy with James Dashner’s The Death Cure. Colin’s back, and I think you all know what to expect at this point. Kellie, Daphne, and Colin discuss the unrelenting bleakness of the series, the very plausible theory that Thomas has a traumatic brain injury that’s affecting his decision-making skills, the lack of kissing, and that unresolved ending.Bonus Colin episode activity: count the number of references to Damon Lindelof shows.Follow us on social media @rereadingthe revolution for updates and bonus content!
Dorothy Must Die | "Wicked For Emo Girls"
01:18:38|"The spirit of the Maze is always with us."With the release of Wicked: For Good upon us, we thought it was the perfect time for us to read Danielle Paige's 2014 dystopian reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy Must Die! This book builds on existing IP from both L Frank Baum's books and the 1939 movie, but with enough dystopian, fantasy, and Epic Reads elements to feel like a classic Rereading the Revolution selection. Kellie and Daphne are back with special guest Bailey to discuss the second half of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's Beautiful Creatures! More hit songs and bad accents from the audiobook are revealed, we posit our many unanswered questions, and Bailey shares her own supernatural reading experience.Follow Bailey!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/greekchoirreads/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greekchoirFollow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates and bonus content!

Beautiful Creatures Part 1 | "Trip Down Memory Lane"
01:24:19|"Immediately, she’s giving off the vibe of someone who might know some spells."I hope you missed our singing! For Halloween this year, we're reading Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's Beautiful Creatures (2009). We're joined by the hilarious Bailey for part one of a double episode on the book. Kellie, Daphne, and Bailey talk about this book's unusual origin, its historical influences and implications, and all things witches--I mean, Casters.Lena Symphonic Poem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvYwxswFBmgFollow Bailey!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/greekchoirreads/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@greekchoirFollow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates and bonus content!
Vampire Academy Movie | "These Vampires DON’T Sparkle" (Sneak Peek)
05:49|UNLOCK THE FULL EPISODE BY SUBSCRIBING TO OUR PATREON AT PATREON.COM/REREADINGTHEREVOLUTION"The Bear took this blueprint and ran with it."Clearly our patrons wanted more vampire content for Halloween, because our bonus episode this month is on the 2014 Vampire Academy movie! We discuss the movie's tonal confusion, the cast of (mostly) YA heavy-hitters, changes from the book to the film script, and where the series went from here.Follow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates and bonus content!
Twilight Movie | "5 Stars: This Will Change Your Life"
01:09:53|"That face card has never declined once in his life.”As promised, Catherine Hardwicke's stunning 2009 adaptation of Twilight is on our screens this week. We're joined by longtime friend and Twilight superfan Sam, and the hater police are in for a treat because it's our least critical episode of all time (and if we're being realistic, probably for all time). I'd say to take a sip every time we say the word "iconic" or talk about what a life-changing piece of cinema this is, but you would probably die.Don't worry, we still did our homework and bring in tons of behind-the-scenes details about the cast and crew, filming locations, wardrobe and makeup, and how this film made it from page to screen, but the episode more or less devolves into a quote-off by the end. The girls that get it, get it. Hold on tight, spider monkey.Follow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates and bonus content!
The Summer I Turned Pretty Finale & Announcement (Special Episode!)

01:26:56|"He has been the entire male loneliness epidemic on his own."It's hoa hoa season! To celebrate, we are finally beginning one of our most anxiously-awaited series, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (2005). We're joined by OG Twihard Hannah Lisa Lohr for a deep dive into the real and fictional worlds of Forks, transcending the good/bad spectrum, the book's heavy religious influences, and teen girl culture, exchanging lots of long, yearning looks along the way.Videos/Articles MentionedAlyssa Grenfell, Signs Twilight was Written by a Mormon: https://youtu.be/JwGC4ewe1_w?si=Fl7HZlmSJ5XXbku1Babbity Kate, Bella Swan's Khaki Skirt: https://youtu.be/nT0XL1dNUh0?si=yLiOx1ODX4wJpW3uForks Tourism: https://www.thetimes.com/world/us-world/article/where-twilight-set-forks-washington-visit-airbnb-9qms7v0p7Carlisle's Net Worth: https://www.forbes.com/2010/04/13/twilight-carlisle-cullen-opinions-fictional-15-10-vampire.htmlStephenie Meyer Blog PostsThe Story Behind Twilight: https://web.archive.org/web/20080730025156/http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight.htmlHow Twilight Got Published: https://stepheniemeyer.com/the-story-of-twilight-getting-published/Cullen Cars: https://stepheniemeyer.com/the-books/twilight/twilight-cullen-cars/Quileute ResourcesQuileute Nation official website: https://quileutenation.org/Learn about and donate to the Move to Higher Ground Project: https://mthg.org/get-involved/Smithsonian Magazine interview with Quileute tribe chairwoman, Bonita Cleveland, about Twilight’s impact on the tribe: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/behind-the-scenes-of-twilight-101387794/Follow Hannah!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hannahlisalohr/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@hannahlisalohrYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@HannahLisaLohrFollow us on social media @rereadingtherevolution for updates and bonus content!
