The Scissor Sisters: Dublin's Most Grotesque Murder?

Season 2, Ep. 2

This week we discuss the harrowing true story of the Scissor Sisters murders that shocked Ireland and captured international attention in 2005.

Charlotte and Linda Mulhall, together with their mother Kathleen, killed Farah Swaleh Noor in 2005 after a drink and drug binge, on St. Patrick's Day weekend. After the murder, the sisters dismembered Swaleh-Noor's body and dumped it in the city's Royal Canal.

This is a story of violence, generational abuse and lies and one that is known as one of Dublin's most grotesque murders.

Welcome to my first ever, publicly released (from the archives!) episode of Red Room. In this episode I fill you in on what the future is going to be like, from an alleged time-traveller, I learned about the ancient myth of the skinwalker and pondered about shapeshifting in mythology and what kind of behaviour it was used contextualise to us mere mortals, in the mythology of Ancient Greece. --- Send in a voice message:
  • Scientology & The Cult of Celebrity

This week we take a deep dive into the Church of Scientology and their relationship to (and obsession with) celebrities. From alleged cover-ups, arranged marriages to using the charisma of the celebrity to spread their beliefs far and wide, there is no Scientology without the A-list celeb, and seemingly nothing they won’t do to keep their A-listers loyal followers. In this episode we cover the beginnings of this profitable relationship and how it was always L Ron Hubbard’s wish to be a celebrity Church. We also talk about how John Travolta got involved with Scientology, how they helped his career and reputation before casting him aside and how now, they seem to be doing little to cover his tracks. Of course we take a look at Tom Cruise, the Church’s alleged #2, and how the organisation have curated relationships, staff and an entire life for their most famous and devoted member. • The Streisand Effect & When Censorship Backfires

There's an awful lot of talk about censorship in the media lately, but did you know a lot of the most viral information was only revealed because of an attempt to cover it up? The Streisand Effect is a phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of increasing awareness of that information, often via the Internet. In this episode we cover a plethora of examples of the Streisand Effect, from where it gets it's name, political coverups gone wrong, all the way to literary censorship creating cult classics like Lolita. Finally we talk about Roko's Basilisk, described as "The Most Terrifying Thought Experiment of All Time", that went viral through the effect, possibly puts everyone who is aware of its existence in danger. Hi everyone! This month's Off-Script Hot-Take I discuss my love of Warhol that was reignited through the new Netflix docu-series, I watch the Kardashian's so you don't have to (but you will because are all merely slaves to their machine) and view them and the show through the Warholian lens of instant fame, curated controversy and polished yet heavily contrived realities. Finally I ponder the importance of the villian and how we are all just jesters on the stage of The Theatre of the Internet. Enjoy!
