  • 19. Using Your Past Struggles as Fuel for Carrying Out Your Purpose with Steve Timmons

    52:30
This week, we get some incredible insights from Steve Timmons.Steve's original goal in life was to be a successful musician so he built a band from his high school friends and Craigslist and they wrote a few records, did some touring, and was on the radio a few times. That band broke up after about 5-6 years which led Steve to decide to move to FL to study Yoga at the studio where he was first exposed to the practice. He traveled to many studios and retreat centers and is certified as a EYT500 yoga teacher. He was working full time teaching yoga and guitar for about 2 years and was barely scraping by to the point that he ended up driving Uber in the side as well. His father, who owns his own AC business was the one that I interrupted my outdoor meditation session one day to tell him he needed to go get a “real job”. He told his father he didn’t want to be in the restaurant industry anymore so he suggested salesThat is where Steve found the health insurance industry. Over the past 4 years Steve has personally helped over 500 families resulting in 4 million dollars in insurance premiums being sold and I have also personally mentored over 50 agents and had award winning teams as well as trained 10-20 multiple six figure earners in this industry. The interesting thing is Steve realized early on in this industry that it’s really all about energy, manifestation, clarity of purpose, and tapping into the power within. These are things I have always been drawn to study and unlock within myself, and looking back even when I was just in a rock band I was in a mindset of building businesses and mentoring people.Through his earnings with insurance Steve has helped many of his family members out of some financial hardships, has purchased some real estate to secure his own financial freedom, He's in stocks/crypto etc.. and still shows up to work every day because he has a huge vision of having a holistic retreat center one day that is focused around mental health and drug/alcohol addiction.Steve is a victim of child abuse and his mother and father both struggled with addiction their whole lives. His father is 20 plus years sober, but his mother actually died from an overdose a little over a year ago. That weighs heavily on my heart and he have a huge desire to serve people with his story of overcoming and growing from the dark things in our lives in order to unlock and share that light that I feel is in all of us, and drives us to create and serve the collective.

Born in New York City in 1976, Lou did not purchase his first drum set until he was eighteen. After two years of eight to twelve hours of daily practice, he quit playing and joined the Navy - intent on earning tuition money to attend the Drummer's Collective in New York City, now known as The Collective. Five years later, during his last year of enlistment, Lou finally picked up his sticks again and, incredibly, after eight months of practicing, won the 2001 Guitar Center South East Regional Drum-Off, placing him 7th in the nation. Two years later, in 2003, he won the over 18 age division of Modern Drummer's world- wide "Undiscovered Drummer" contest and soon after toured with legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson in his Big Bop Nouveau Band. "Louis is without a doubt one of the most exciting new young drummers on the scene. He is dedicated to his craft and I look forward to watching the progress of his career!" - Maynard Ferguson. Since then, Lou has gone on to work with some of the industry's finest artists, such as John Benitez, Adam Nitti, Alex Acuña, Luis Conte and more. Latin and English CCM artists such as Marco Barrientos, Raul Sanchez, Christine D’clario, Lamar Boschman, Jeff Deyo, Natalie Grant, Anthony Evans, Seventh Day Slumber, and many more. In addition to performance, Lou has a passion for teaching. He has been a successful masterclass clinician, inspiring and influencing drummers of all ages both in Europe and the United States. Highlighted in Modern Drummer Magazine, Lou says his goal is, "To become a better person and drummer than I was yesterday. I sincerely believe that music both inspires and speaks to people. I pray that my drumming does the same.” In 2008, Lou launched 99centdrumlessons.com which was the first of its kind. The site consisted of online drumming lessons which averaged between 15-20 minutes in length being sold for $0.99. Despite its instantaneous success, Lou would later take the site down as a sacrifice in hopes to reintroduce it upon completion of a larger vision despite knowing he would lose primary online “real-estate”. The bigger vision was to incorporate medicine with drumming. Despite not being taken seriously, Lou believed in his vision and began the journey to become a health care provider. In 2010, Lou began his undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2013. While awaiting acceptance to a program in Physician Associate Studies, Lou was called to a seven-month tour with Seventh Day Slumber. Lou was accepted and attended CUNY School of Medicine and graduated Magna Cum Laude in January 2019. 2 Present Day Currently, Lou is a business owner, educator, and provider in several areas with the foundations being in both music and medicine. They are the following: 1.) 99centdrumlessons.com has returned and is estimated to make a full launch summer of 2023. 2.) MusicianMed.com is another business entity Lou created alongside his physician mentor and clinical anatomy professor to help bring preventive medicine efforts to a significantly uninsured population, his musician brothers and sisters. Lou looks to provide a web-based platform that will provide preventative medical education in layperson terms by way of video streaming lessons. Lou looks to provide affiliation opportunities with his endorsee family first before offering affiliation to surrounding companies. 3.) Up until very recently, Lou practiced rural medicine in the remote villages of Alaska providing medical care to the Native tribes.
