In which our heroes talk s*** about solo records from Iron Maiden vocalists.Leon joins me this week as we get into his thoughts on the new solo records from Iron Maiden frontmen Bruce Dickinson and Blaze Bayley while I give my early first impressions type thoughts on Norther by Shane Smith and the Saints. We also look at some upcoming releases, chat about some other interesting side/solo projects and I make Leon play my silly little pop trivia games.RECENT LISTENS:Blaze BayleyGenesisThe Ballad of Songbirds & SnakesGo WestShane Smith and the SaintsUPCOMING RELEASES:The Black CrowsKayce MusgravesMad CaddiesSIDE PROJECT PLAYLIST:A few of the names included on our playlistBruce DickinsonJames Dean BradfieldLayne StaleyThe Power StationJohn FruscianteAnd a few more besides.RECORD OF THE WEEKLeon picked this weeks record and it's the 2023 album Hackney Diamonds from the Rolling Stones which I definitely did not compare to a Supergrass record. Definitely not a thing that I would do.....................................................................We use Apple Music to listen to all the Records and Bands we bring to the show each week. You can support this show by taking out a subscription using the link below.Subscribe to Apple Music.Follow us on:InstagramFacebookSupport Us On PatreonRecords & Bands is written and produced by Rob Jones and can be found at www.recordsandbands.com
  • Spotlight On: Moron Police. A Boat on the Sea (Repost from 2022)

I wanted to re-share our look at the 2019 album from Moron Police, A Boat on the Sea. What started in my head as a bit of a novelty record has moved very quickly into my heart and is deserving of a spot in a list of my favourite records we've covered on the show so here's a rerun of that conversation I had with now 3rd chair of the show...Leon Bateman.Originally Posted in February 2022.In which our heroes talk s*** about the album A Boat on the Sea from Moron Police. Rob is joined today by new regular guest, Leon Bateman to discuss the 2019 prog/rock/pop/synthy??? album from Moron Police, A Boat on the Sea. It's really difficult to find the words to describe this completely unique album so please forgive our mindless musings. Hopefully our enthusiasm will compensate for a complete lack of critical understanding on just what is happening on this record. Like the record, this episode goes all over the place so strap in and enjoy the ride.We use Apple Music to listen to all the Records and Bands we bring to the show each week. You can support this show by taking out a subscription using the link below.Subscribe to Apple Music.Follow us on:InstagramFacebookSupport Us On PatreonRecords & Bands is written and produced by Rob Jones and can be found at www.recordsandbands.com

  • Spotlight on: Dookie (Repost from 2021)

In which our heroes talk s*** about the 1994 seminal album from Green Day; Dookie. As it's 30 years old at the beginning of this month we thought it should be our Record of the Week for the first podcast of this year and we're taking the opportunity to re-post this episode from 2021 where a couple of inexperienced podcasters shout over each other about Dookie. This is an album that's really important for Sam but certainly opened doors for Rob back in 1994 when he was still open to listening to stuff from outside of Seattle! We discuss, among other things, the bands output over a nearly 30 year career, getting kids up on stage to play guitar and the concept of selling out. The whole "are Green Day punk?" question gets knocked about, we trace the music of Green Day through to the mid 2000's emo scene and Rob has a hot take attributing the albums mega sales to the premature death of Kurt Cobain. Its a proper rambling bulls***ty kind of a podcast this one but isn't that the point. Green Day - DookieWe use Apple Music to listen to all the Records and Bands we bring to the show each week. You can support this show by taking out a subscription using the link below.Subscribe to Apple Music.Follow us on:InstagramFacebookSupport Us On PatreonRecords & Bands is written and produced by Rob Jones and can be found at www.recordsandbands.com
