Ratbag with Mel & Sam
The Musical Theatre Sickness with Karis Oka
DING DONG! That's the theatre foyer bell. It's time to get your arse into the theatre, you're sitting in the dress circle, and the show is about to begin. We are joined by the most divine star of Australian Musical Theatre, and our dear pal: Karis Oka! This is a mammoth episode and we cover a lottttt of ground. From authenticity in audition rooms, to Karis' recent casting as Lydia in Beetlejuice to her love of spooky things, this episode is a very special one.
We then open up our hotline for all you little rats who adore Karis as much as we do, Karis then shares a new medical condition she has coined for herself, and as always there is a 'Hit It Toots!' where we all play rats.
We hope you love this episode! It was a joy to record.
See you this Thursday for 'Ratfood!'.
Love Mel & Sam

Mel & Sam Force Sentimentality on Flo & Joan
01:02:59||Ep. 34Hello there rats and get ready for another beautiful guest ep with two women that are kind of Mel and Sam but in a different, more stoic-&-British font: it’s Flo & Joan! Rosie and Nicola are the two sisters behind iconic UK musical comedians ‘Flo & Joan’ who have made a name for themselves performing all over the world with their witty songs. They are the two writers behind the critically acclaimed show: ‘One Man Musical’ and have an upcoming Amazon Original 'Alive On Stage' hitting screens in August! In today’s episode the four musical gals sit down and chat everything from Andrew Lloyd-Webber to iconic British slang and of course end with a ‘Hit It Toots!’ but this time we’re branching out as Diva Mice.We look up to Flo & Joan very much and the fact they said yes to us, especially in the depths of comedy fest, means a bloody lot! So we hope you enjoy! Love ya guts and don’t forget about our lifffeeee-changing Thursday ‘Ratfood’s’ too!! 45:31||Ep. 33Hey cuties!! Welcome to today’s Ratfood where we’re pretty much just having a big fat catch up, guvna! And you’re invited along for the ride - zoom lags and overlaps and all! This is the longest we’ve ever gone without speaking (not an exaggeration) and boy do we have THINGS TO CATCH UP ON! Sammy tells us allllll about her time at Prima Vera Sound in Barcelona, about how she got fyre-festivaled, how the sets were of our top 3 pop girlies and some of the things that really surprised her about some of the artists’ sets.We also unpack all our thoughts on the Sabrina Carpenter album cover BONANZA, as well as critiquing it alongside the Fletcher ‘coming out’ saga amongst other (what some are calling) ‘sings of societal regression’ from the last few weeks.Hope you’re all having beautiful weeks wherever you are, and if you need Mel, she’ll be busy going after world domination on Cooking Dash, and if you need Sam, she’ll be arriving at Heathrow airport 73 hours early to come home to her best friend TOOT SUITE.You know the drill - come see us in Sydney if you wanna come see a live show of ‘The Platonic Human Centipede’ (https://events.humanitix.com/the-platonic-human-centipede) and we’ll see you very soon.xxMel & Sam—You can watch the full video form of this episode on YouTube HERE: https://youtube.com/@themelandsam?si=jzeN-E_-DcE-DGHSFollow Mel & Sam on Instagram (@themelandsam) to keep up with all things pod, live shows and other nonsense. 43:24||Ep. 33Hey rat! Hope you're reading this with an undercurrent of fluttering flutes and shimmery strings because today's a whimsical solo ep!! Sorry about it!! To kick off the episode Sam brings in a gorgeous list where people share the ways they bring out whimsy in their day to day life, and this list is actually adorable. But with that being said, please enjoy this 37 minute dissertation of “don’t care” culture and the impossibility of ever escaping the cult - nay LIFESTYLE - that is a life in the theatre, with a sprinkling of one of the most heinous dating/sex stories from Sammy’s personal story bank that will leave you shakin’ in your boots and wishing you never uttered the words “Green Gables.”Thank you for joining us for this ratty ratty Ratfood, and we’ll see you for another ep on Monday!
