Winston Berglund, a former Carmel High School standout and Purdue University football player, has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal in January. Despite being expected to take on a more significant role as a redshirt freshman this season, a shoulder injury cut his playing time short. Berglund accumulated fifteen tackles, including two for a loss, and one sack over his two seasons with the team. His decision to transfer comes after a personal journey marked by his mothers battle with leukemia, during which he donated bone marrow for a transplant. Berglund has two seasons of eligibility remaining and could potentially apply for a medical hardship waiver for an additional year due to his injury. His departure follows that of two other defensive players, DMon Marable and Stu Smith, who also plan to transfer.
