Hello everyone and welcome to our podcast, In the Evenings with Jenny and Alexa. We would like to invite you in to listen to our first and only episode titled, “The US Prison System; A Deep Dive into its Construction and Maintenance as it Relates to Race.” As social issues are gaining momentum and are being retained at the forefront of everyone’s attention through social media, we thought it’d be important to introduce an often overlooked social issue that greatly impacts the lives of people of color. Through this episode, we would like our fellow classmates to gain new insights into how our prison system operates in relation to other modernized countries whose main objectives are not the implementation of mass incarceration, harsh sentences, inhumane treatment in prisons, all while facing similar crime rates as the US. By gaining this new outlook into how our US prison system operates in relation to other countries, we would like to urge our classmates to be more proactive in the battle to reassess and reconstruct our prison system so as to prevent the further marginalization of people of color in our society.
