Psalm 139:1-18

Season 2, Ep. 104

Psalm 139

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

    you discern my thoughts from far away.

You search out my path and my lying down,

    and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue,

    O Lord, you know it completely.

You hem me in, behind and before,

    and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

    it is so high that I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from your spirit?

    Or where can I flee from your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, you are there;

    if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.

If I take the wings of the morning

    and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,

10

even there your hand shall lead me,

    and your right hand shall hold me fast.

11

If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me,

    and the light around me become night’,

12

even the darkness is not dark to you;

    the night is as bright as the day,

    for darkness is as light to you.

13

For it was you who formed my inward parts;

    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

    Wonderful are your works;

that I know very well.

15

    My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

16

Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.

In your book were written

    all the days that were formed for me,

    when none of them as yet existed.

17

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!

    How vast is the sum of them!

18

I try to count them—they are more than the sand;

    I come to the end—I am still with you.

Of David.1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,    “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”2 Our feet are standing    in your gates, Jerusalem.3 Jerusalem is built like a city    that is closely compacted together.4 That is where the tribes go up—    the tribes of the Lord—to praise the name of the Lord    according to the statute given to Israel.5 There stand the thrones for judgment,    the thrones of the house of David.6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:    “May those who love you be secure.7 May there be peace within your walls    and security within your citadels.”8 For the sake of my family and friends,    I will say, “Peace be within you.”9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,    I will seek your prosperity.

    Jesus Calms the Storm35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
