  • 215. 2025/26 Season Review

    01:15:14||Season 1, Ep. 215
    Alex Hinde hosts Archie and Tom for a deep-dive review of Argyle’s utterly chaotic 2025/26 season.From the summer overhaul and the appointment of Tom Cleverley, to a squad seemingly built for multiple systems at once, the trio work through the key moments that shaped one of the most bizarre seasons in recent Argyle history.They discuss the early-season collapse, the departures of key off-field figures, the atmosphere around Home Park during the darkest moments of the campaign, and the truly unexpected return of Derek Adams. There’s also a look at the tactical reset which transformed Argyle’s fortunes, Bim Pepple’s remarkable rise, and the late-season surge which somehow left the Greens minutes away from the play-offs on the final day.Most of all, the episode asks the big question: how exactly did Tom Cleverley survive, and how did Argyle go from looking broken in November to one of the form teams in the division by spring?Even by Argyle standards, this was a truly bonkers season.

  • 214. Eighth That a Shame

    01:15:24||Season 1, Ep. 214
    It’s all over. The large opera singer has sung. Summer is here. It feels worse than a pulsating win, but win we did. So for the last time this season, Archie is joined by Chris, Mark and Tom to review a chaotic League One afternoon in an equally chaotic one parter.Anyone in the typical Argyle camp would have been their central element after a counter attack and an absolute worldie (hate that word) saw Argyle 2-0 down. The nerves in the stands, at home, watching on phones translated to the pitch with some world class balls over the stands and clunky moves had everyone worried. But it started to turn, slowly, and yet again a set play played its part in starting a turnaround and by half time its 2-2 and all to play for. With other results: it’s as you were…To a seasoned fan, the second half felt less about the game on the field and more about results elsewhere. A Northampton sending off - FFS we hate playing 10 men - and a great goal to take the lead but all attention turns to Bolton and to Stevenage as time slowly started to slow down. 90th minute, it’s happening. 97th, Stevenage have scored a ghost goal, Luton are winning and we are all back to earth with a bump. Ugh.In amongst that there is a debate about the future of Tom Cleverley, the mini renaissance of Xavier Amaechi, the part played by a resilient home crowd, the Teletext refresh of other results. But it just wasn’t to be. Next stop an actual play off for the women’s team. A huge thank you to everyone who has listened in a rollercoaster season. It really means the world, to all of us who host, join and edit the Pilgrims Podcast . Join us for some summer specials, August will come around before you know it, small matter of a World Cup to keep us warmed up. Derek wheeling and dealing. Lots to be excited about. Come On You Greens.
  • 213. Ben Win - Part Two

    47:22||Season 1, Ep. 213
    Welcome back! Part Two starts with the Fans Forum fallout, and then, to the play offs - with the women’s team securing a place and the men’s team in the mix going into the final day, it’s still - still - an exciting time. Will others help us out? Will we show up? Will we - ultimately - make it?  A quick random review of THAT 2004 QPR game and what all it meant tees things up for a week of wait and see. Only another 5 days until we find out. COYG
  • 212. Ben Win - Part One

    48:27||Season 1, Ep. 212
    A big week ahead so we have split into two this week. It’s back on! A circus afternoon at Home Park and Argyle have made it to a meaningful last game of the season, for the third year running. It will need some freaky results but not the 19-0 win from last year - Archie is joined by Chris, Mark and Tom to talk it all through. It all starts so well. A sublime pass and a perfect finish amongst one way traffic against a relegated team - and life is looking good. Until poor Conor Hazard has a rush of blood to the head, Argyle are down to ten and, not long after, it’s 1-1. Cue doom (and an impromptu quiz). Except, it wasn’t. The visitor’s goal proved to be their highlight as, for once, the ‘it’s harder against 10 men’ worked in the greens’ favor. An excellent performance from Ashby-Hammond, endless running, fluid possession and as half time approached things were feeling good again.The second half started with a bang and another fantastic finish from the resurgent Pepple. Goals of the highest quality, with both feet: what a privilege it has been to see him play. Some late conservatism - enforced of course with 90 minutes with 10 men - but despite one moment, the result didn’t really feel in doubt. The last time we see some of those players at Home Park? Let’s wait and see.
  • 211. Bantam Wait

    40:02||Season 1, Ep. 211
    So that’s that (sort of). Archie is joined by Chris and Mark minutes after the final whistle for a rapid review of the game that all but cements another season in League One. A frantic start and an offside let off after a quick free kick and - corner time - some chaos and a fantastic finish from a deserving, redeemed Brendan Wiredu. Some high quality counter attacking and at half time the dream is on. With limited blame and some frustration, the second half became something of a siege against a team with a strong home record. Some poor defending and average goalkeeping contributed to an equalizer and from there it was fundamentally huff and puff against a house made of bricks. No Oseni when all we wanted was a goal - just give us a goal - one half chance and it’s all over. SHAME.Other results - which at the weekend were favorable - were not great. So we need 6 and 2 others need to collapse: it could happen but let’s face it, it probably won’t. Up the Bastard Argyle (cries in the foetal position)
  • 210. Underground Overground Wombles 1-3

    01:29:34||Season 1, Ep. 210
    Archie and Tom are joined by pod debutant Graham Clark to discuss Wimbledon 1 - Argyle 3 - a game that had it all. A barnstorming start with Argyle taking an early lead, a wobble, and then substitutions that worked in Argyle’s favour for once. The tide turned, and it ended up being a very convincing win.The joy doesn’t stop there, as the trio look around at other results on the day, all going in Argyle’s favour and giving those play-off hopes another boost — if not fully reignited, then certainly fuelled further.In Part Two, there’s an update on the women’s team, including a look back at that huge Real Bedford win, which may have helped secure second spot.There’s also a discussion around the redundancies that drew so much attention during the week, with around 20 members of staff let go, including Charlie Rose. The group discuss the communication around it, the perceived lack of clarity, and the wider financial state of the club and the football landscape.Things end on a lighter note as they look ahead to the play-off picture, the final three games, and what could be a huge six-pointer away at Bradford in midweek.Plymouth Argyle Women Supporter’s Club contact - argylewomensc@gmail.com Social Media post regarding Real Bedford travel - https://www.instagram.com/p/DXPl95zDMtZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
  • 209. Gone with the Wind

    01:28:48||Season 1, Ep. 209
    So, twenty-four hours on and time to review the ultimate draw that felt like a defeat. Against the old enemy. How can an equaliser in injury time feel so flat? Archie is joined by Alex, Chris and Mark to get into it.Let’s start with the weather. Did anyone mention it was windy? A first half of minimal football, maximum chaos saw Argyle slowly grow into the game creating the better chances. One great save and some half chances but at half time, Argyle had slightly the better of a messy 45 minutes. A random ball off the bar and then, sadly, the one piece of actual football, 0-1 down and everyone condemned to 30 minutes of pointless horrible Octoberball. Then a crazy last 15 minutes with an equaliser, a soft goal, another equaliser and a 2-2 draw that really didn’t suit either team. But a late Exeter chance to put the game to bed probably means the impact on the season could be greater for them. Ha.Everyone takes a breath for Part 2. A quick look at the end of the season for Argyle Women, a review of the upcoming player of the season vote, some ecumenical debate (yes, really) and a look forward to Wimbledon and the final four games of the season. It’s the season effectively over or could there be a miracle? Perhaps the monks from The Dripping Pan can give us a sign?Prayers welcome.
