PSP 204: Update on Tragedy that has Devastated Our Family

For those of you that aren’t aware, my husband died suddenly of a blood clot ten days after a minor Achilles surgery. The grief has been all consuming for me and my three children. I know my podcast, youtube channel, social media posts and emails have abruptly stopped almost a month ago and I didn’t have the energy to even explain why.

I was touched by all the outpouring of love from around the world from those that heard about my loss. I wanted to thank everyone who reached out, mailed me cards and donated to the gofundme account that circulated FB. The love was definitely felt from all directions and was so appreciated.

After he died I decided to close my practice, as my hours were only evenings and weekends, the time my kids will need me the most.

My online resources, classes and AT Parenting Community membership will be my sole focus moving forward. Currently I plan on returning to my online work on April 1st.

I made this video to be played at my husband’s funeral more for his co-workers than for me. Even though it is raw and vulnerable I was encouraged to share it more broadly and I decided to do so in the hopes it could impact even one more person to live a life full of love and connection.

To help grieving children deal with the loss of their parent, you can donate in honor of Jimmie Daniels at https://billysplace.me. They have been a complete godsend for our family during this time.

We are still grieving, so please accept my apologies for not commenting or responding if you reach out. I am going to be staying off social media until I return on April 1st.

  • PSP 358: Psychologist Lori Long Talks About Life with Social Anxiety

    57:53
One of the hardest parts about social anxiety is the feeling you are the only one with these struggles. It actually feeds into the disorder quite well. It is a story that many of us with social anxiety tell ourselves. No one struggles like you do.No one thinks the way you do.No one would understand. When I had Lori and her colleagues, Katie and Mallory, from The Childhood Collective on my podcast, I was surprised when Lori said she had social anxiety. I wanted to hear more and asked her if she’d be willing to come on the show to discuss it. Luckily she agreed! In this week’s AT Parenting Survival Podcast I sat down with Lori to hear about her social anxiety struggles, how it impacted her career and how treatment turned everything around. If you want to learn more about social anxiety follow me on Instagram @socialanxietyreality. To tap into the work of Lori, Katie and Mallory go to The Childhood Collective.🌸 Want more in-depth support with social anxiety? • PSP 357: How to Boost Your Child’s Self-Esteem with Jesse LeBeau

    57:34
Self-esteem and self-confidence can play a big role in our child’s journey with anxiety and OCD. When our anxious kids struggle they can feel overwhelmed with emotions of shame and isolation. They might beat themselves up for being different or for having difficulties. Self-esteem can also play an integral role in how our kids approach anxiety or OCD. Do they have an I can’t attitude or do they feel confident that they can use skills to overcome anxiety and OCD?Self-esteem work is always a crucial supplement to anxiety and OCD treatment. That is why I invited Jesse LeBeau, one of today’s most highly sought-after youth motivational speakers, to join us on the AT Parenting Survival Podcast. In this episode we’ll explore what tools we can offer our kids to help boost self-esteem and confidence.🎉 My new book, Crushing OCD Workbook for Kids was just released. • PSP 356: Are You a Punching Bag for Your Child’s Anxiety and OCD Overwhelm?

    35:40
As parents we are often in the line of fire when it comes to our child’s overwhelm. When dealing with anxiety or OCD we can feel like we are our child’s punching bag. The truth is, physiologically our kids are often looking for a push-pull conversation. It is easier to see you as enemy #1 rather than facing anxiety and OCD head on.In this week’s AT Parenting Survival Podcast I talk about how to “put the rope down” and remove yourself from this push-pull pattern.🎉 My new book, Crushing OCD Workbook for Kids was just released. • PSP 355: Handling Parenting Moments When You Lose it!

We all lose it at one time or another. Parents are human. You are human. We inevitably will lose our cool and say or do things that we regret. But those parenting moments hold untapped clues to what is overwhelming us. Those moments hold wisdom, if we are able to move past the shame to see the insight underneath. In this week’s AT Parenting Survival Podcast we’ll explore how to handle those moments and what they might be revealing if we look deep.🎉 My new book, Crushing OCD Workbook for Kids was just released.
