Oregon's Bye Week

•

Matthew Willinger and EJ Daniels use the bye week to sort through everything that came out of Oregon's 41-27 win at USC, a decade now since the Trojans last beat the Ducks. The big one is Dante Moore: he's dealing with a concussion and nothing more, the program is hopeful he returns this season, and that opens a real debate. EJ puts it at 60/40 that we've seen the last of Moore in a Ducks uniform, arguing there's nothing left for him to prove to NFL scouts, another concussion only hurts his stock, and Dylan Raiola is good enough to take this team to a national title. Matthew pushes back: Moore's numbers are better than Arch Manning's, he's still a late first-rounder, and Dan Lanning has said the job is his when he's healthy. Along the way they rank the top five Oregon quarterbacks of all time (Mariota, Herbert, Nix, Harrington, and a Darron Thomas vs. Dennis Dixon argument).

They also take issue with the AP poll. Oregon landing at 15 is fine, but why is USC still 18th after struggling with Rutgers and Louisiana, and why is Ole Miss still top 10 after being run off the field by Florida? EJ's answer: Oregon's roster is top five in the country and gets graded against Ohio State and Texas, while USC is a young team with one elite player in Jayden Maiava.

Then an early look at UCLA, which is suddenly a dark-horse playoff team under Bob Chesney with Bam Knight and Nico Iamaleava powering a run game that averages nearly 290 yards per game. Stopping the read option has been Oregon's biggest defensive problem all year, the safety spot behind Koi Perich is still a question, and the hosts expect a heavy dose of the front seven plus more of the stunts that produced a sack against USC. They also credit Chesney for reaching out to Lanning while Moore was in the hospital, and close with why Raiola can play looser in his first true start, why Jamari Johnson is still the best tight end in college football, and how Drew Mehringer's play-calling finally clicked with the full set of weapons on the field.

No postgame show this week. The live stream returns next Wednesday at 6:30 PT / 9:30 ET ahead of the UCLA game.
