Permission

Ep. 25

In this week's Love Note on the Open That Door podcast, host Hollis talks about the need to give ourselves PERMISSION to effectively change our lives.

We can try all we might to invoke change in our lives, but if we don't actually give ourselves the permission to grow or transform a part of our lives that we're struggling or unhappy with, our efforts are in vain.

It's in the granting of permission, to ourselves, that opens that door to us becoming the greatest version of who we know ourselves to be, or at least to begin aligning with the callings and wisdom of our heart.

We have to interrupt the reasonings of our minds that keep us trapped in the limiting loops of why we can be do or have what we really want. Only you can grant permission to the YOU you are trying to become.

It takes that commitment, allowing and receiving from inside you to allow your outer world to take shape as a match to your inner world.

Giving yourself permission is a critical and often missed step in creating lasting change—and it's available for you as soon as you are ready to grant it.

  • 30. Our Identity Marks

    16:31||Ep. 30
    Friends! In this week's episode of the Open That Door podcast I explore how our identity marks support us in our full authentic expression, or hinder us if they don't fit any more.What is an identity mark, you ask? Our name is the most obvious one, and in this episode I share my recent decision to change my last name to Rohrer, and the story behind that decision.What parts of your identity might be asking to be set free, changed, transformed? In the end, it's all about giving yourself permission to become the fullest version of who you know yourself to be and to experience more of who you authentically are.In return, we give the gift back to the world of making unique self-expression, beauty and authenticity permissible for all.Tune in here or watch on YouTube @hollisrohrer, and rate, review and share if you like what you hear!
  • 29. Flip the Switch with Greg Sims

    01:08:23||Ep. 29
    Hollis proudly welcomes acting teacher and goal setting coach Greg Sims to the Open That Door podcast. Hollis is a big fan of Greg's having been his student in his one-of-a-kind PATH for the Actor classes on Zoom during COVID. Greg brings so much passion, enthusiasm, encouragement and energy to his daily 4-hour classes, and teaches a completely dynamic and effectively simple process for nailing auditions and delivering high-level, spontaneous performances with less stress and preparation time. His work and teachings are so much fun that you lose yourself in the process and end up delivering some of your best work as a result. Greg's own path didn't come easy, with early childhood trauma, addiction, and a compulsion to try to overcome a false belief that if he wasn't seen by others as a superstar actor he held no value in life. Everything changed when Greg learned to let go of that which he has no control over, and instead focus on two simple things he does have control over: what he's moving towards and what his attitude is. • 28. Reclaim What is Possible

    22:23||Ep. 28
    It's time to pause, create much needed time and space for yourself, and reclaim what is rightfully yours: possibility. Access to what is possible, to opportunity, even in the face of adversity, is available to you right here, right now, my dear friend. I used to get stuck a lot in my life, feel disempowered and a victim to my circumstances. It was an awful way to live. Today, I live 180 degrees from that reality. I created a pathway for myself that allows me to use what is showing up as a difficulty or an obstacle, and create an opening for myself. The type of stuff that used to stop me, get me stuck or shut me down, is now that EXACT thing I need to create an opening in my pathway forward. Which means that you have ALL THE TOOLS you need right now inside you to do the same. When we trade in blame and victimhood for empowerment and freedom, the whole world shifts. And this process is easier than you think. Give yourself 22 minutes to listen to this episode and change your life. What you will learn is that it only takes 5 minutes or less to turn the world around for yourself. You deserve to have full access to your power, peace, happiness, and all that is possible for your life. **Rate, review and share the episode if you like what you hear and think someone else you know needs to hear it, too.**
  • 27. Under the Overlays

    05:19||Ep. 27
    Host Hollis asks the question that we all should be asking if we want more fulfillment, purpose and joy: Do I give myself permission to think, feel or act this way? Our beliefs and actions are a byproduct of the permissions we've been granted and have accepted. Until we become aware that we are still adhering to rules and expectations — permission given to or taken from us by others — we are living under someone else's parameters. We may believe we are in the driver's seat, but if we are on autopilot or in adult amnesia when it comes to what we believe we are allowed to be, do and have, then we are actually the passenger in someone else's automatic.Who or what we give authority to is actually what guides our lives and life choices. It's the act of giving and receiving permission that is the real driver in our lives.Until we can dig in and ask this question, we are not guaranteed we are living true to our deeper needs and desires, free from influence and our fear of being judged and alienated or cast aside."Do I give myself permission" opens the door to a world where our intuitive knowing gets to step up and start making choices. The backside of this coin of freedom, authenticity and power is that when we are the granter of our own permission, we are also the one responsible for the results of our choices.Let this be good news! Take the pressure off yourself to get it right, and instead live to get it true. Let this be a practice in discovery, joy and cooperation with your intuition and deeper self. You do KNOW, you just need to give yourself permission to own that truth.

  • 24. Divine Direction with David Paul Mckinzie

    01:02:32||Ep. 24
    Host Hollis proudly welcomes David Paul Mickinzie to the Open That Door podcast! David is a successful media and entertainment entrepreneur, a host, a branding expert, a former college football player, has been featured on NBC, Good Morning America and CBS, interviewed mega-influentials like Mark Cuban, Charles Barkley and other notables, a spokesman for the PGA, NBA and NFL, and (fun fact) was one of only three black children featured on the kid's show Barney and Friends in the early 2000s. Needless to say, David is a man of many talents who wears many hats. But what stands out about David the most, and allows him to be successful at his many endeavors, is his unyielding spirit and deep, disciplined faith. David overflows with GOOD ENERGY. I felt it the moment I met him. He says that aligning daily with divine guidance is key to what is clearly his deep connection to life itself. In a world where we can choose cynicism, fear, judgement, envy and hate over purpose, passion, love, joy, alignment and being divinely led, the choice seems obvious. But it takes practice and conditioning to lean into and trust that quiet voice that leads us to our light over the din of our noisy world. Yet, there is enough room for all of our love and light! Yours and mine! David embodies this truth. Leave a review and rating if you love this episode! <3Connect with David on IG at https://www.instagram.com/dmac_1
  • 23. Trust What Calls To You

    05:50||Ep. 23
    Hello OTD friends! I've started a new mini-series within the Open That Door Podcast called LOVE NOTES that will come out every week usually on Mondays or sometimes Tuesdays (us feminine-led leave a little room for flexibility while staying rooted in our commitments). LOVE NOTE #1: Trust What Calls To You is your invitation and permission to show up as you really are in the world, full of shadows, yes, and also full of LIGHT. What if, in our habitual ways of trying to keep ourselves safe and protected, we are dismissing the whole reason why we're here in the first place—to BECOME the extraordinary-ness within in us that we accidentally keep whittling down to ordinariness? What if your greatest fantasy or loftiest vision could actually become your reality? That nudge in you that seems audacious or even irresponsible... what if THAT IS the life you are supposed to be leading and creating? What if all it took was giving yourself permission? It takes an extraordinary leap of faith to trust that a fantasy (or dream or deep desire or inspired idea) can become a reality. But when you know that nothing that comes to you organically is bigger than you are capable of, you start trusting that there has to be a way for it to move through you into substance and being. And the fact that you have an inspired tug in the first place is PROOF that there is a means to bring into the world that which starts in you as an idea. It's all energy, as Dr. Joe Dispenza says. Trust what calls to you and know that you are the perfect match to bring it forth.

    49:20||Ep. 22
    Host Hollis welcomes sound healer, astrologer, and bonafide Goddess Kristin Reitter to the Open That Door podcast to talk about ASCENSION! Buckle up, let your hair down, and get ready to RISE, friends! Kristin has been studying and teaching astrology for decades and practicing sound healing since 2003, and says that we—humanity—is ripe and more than ready to transcend the old ways that no longer fit who we are and welcome in the new. In her melodic, empowered and playful way, Kristin reminds us that we don't yet know how powerful we actually are because we've been giving our empowerment away. Now that things beyond our control are SHIFTING at a rapid pace, our job is to take responsibility for our part in the old, forgive, forgive, forgive all that is in the way, and open up to a peace, power and purpose that is calling each of us to embody. Love, light and compassion will lead the way, so get your heart activated with the SIMPLE DAILY PRACTICE of putting both hands on your heart and taking five meaningful breaths. This one simple exercise will move mountains, and open you up to more joy, fulfillment and meaning than you've ever experienced.
