Open That Door
Divine Direction with David Paul Mckinzie
Host Hollis proudly welcomes David Paul Mickinzie to the Open That Door podcast!
David is a successful media and entertainment entrepreneur, a host, a branding expert, a former college football player, has been featured on NBC, Good Morning America and CBS, interviewed mega-influentials like Mark Cuban, Charles Barkley and other notables, a spokesman for the PGA, NBA and NFL, and (fun fact) was one of only three black children featured on the kid's show Barney and Friends in the early 2000s.
Needless to say, David is a man of many talents who wears many hats. But what stands out about David the most, and allows him to be successful at his many endeavors, is his unyielding spirit and deep, disciplined faith.
David overflows with GOOD ENERGY. I felt it the moment I met him. He says that aligning daily with divine guidance is key to what is clearly his deep connection to life itself.
In a world where we can choose cynicism, fear, judgement, envy and hate over purpose, passion, love, joy, alignment and being divinely led, the choice seems obvious. But it takes practice and conditioning to lean into and trust that quiet voice that leads us to our light over the din of our noisy world.
Yet, there is enough room for all of our love and light! Yours and mine! David embodies this truth.

34. You Are The Container
11:01||Ep. 34Friends! It's been a week! I'm fresh off my very first TEDx Talk! Last Saturday, I went to Pocatello, Idaho to deliver a talk called The Power of Self-Permission. It went GREAT... except for the part where I completely went blank on stage and had no idea what to say or do next. Luckily, like most moments of COMPLETE TERROR, it only lasted a few seconds and I was off and running again. The good news is that those moments when we lose it, when we completely forget our way, panic, falter, fall down, become EXPOSED, we remember our own humanity, and instantly we step into our full-blown POWER. In the moments when we lose control, we gain faith in ourselves and in our ability to find our way through. And we always, in these moments, if we dare to stick them out, find our way forward. It's through the struggle and the triumph that we become MORE of who we are. We discover ourselves when our planning and masking and facades and expectations fail us. We discover ourselves when we overcome. Be willing to stay in the moment. The election also just happened and it's time to take care of ourselves and one another. Feel your feelings, make room for the emotions that are roiling through you, good or bad, and remember that you are the container for all of your thought and all of your feelings. You don't have to let any single one of them take over. Be mindful of our very human tendencies to draw stark and dead-end conclusions in heightened times. You are big enough to weather any storm, sweetheart. There will be a way through that didn't exist for you on election Tuesday, but by staying present to what IS, not what you fear, but what really IS, the creative solutions to move forward will appear. Trust in the peace and power inside you and surrender to your purpose, and let that be your guide. You got this.33. Only Connect
05:31||Ep. 33In this week's Open That Door podcast episode, "Only Connect," host Hollis pops on to remind us that no matter what we are up to in life, everything is a work of progress. Folks, there is no arriving, and the sooner we digest that shift in perspective, the faster and easier it will be to find satisfaction and success in each step we take that brings us closer to our goals and dreams. The most direct route to opening that door to a life and livelihood we love is by only connecting. This simple piece of genius advise changes the game, because it is only through connection to ourselves and other people that we manifest what we desire. So, bring on the connections this week, my people! Let "only connect" be your guiding principle and see how this easy-to-follow beacon shows you ways through that you couldn't see before. 08:40||Ep. 32Dear you! You are born lovable and capable, no matter what anyone else says. It's your birthright to walk the earth knowing that you have the capability in you to become whatever you set out to be. Some of us mix up CAPABILITY with COMPETENCY. These are two different things. Listen in and learn the difference so that you will never again be afraid to go after anything you desire. You got this, my capable friend. 01:36:11||Ep. 31Friends, this episode of the Open That Door podcast is PACKED! This is my longest interview to date with the beautiful, smart, savvy, heart-led Jennifer Adkins, an executive director in the animal advocacy world and an "accidental advocate" for women's healthcare rights. During Jen and her husband John's second pregnancy, a routine 12-week wellness checkup revealed that their unborn child had Turner Syndrome and would not make it. In the state of Idaho, where Jen and I both live, the 6-week abortion ban prevents any medical practitioner to give care for or even advice about an abortion after the first six weeks beyond telling their patients—as they did in Jen's case—that they either can wait to miscarry or are free to explore other healthcare options out of state. Jen and her husband consider themselves lucky that they had the resources to travel to a neighboring state to receive the abortion she required, since Jen did not miscarry, and feel blessed that her compromised pregnancy did not create life-threatening issues for Jen. However, being the heart-led advocate that Jen is, she immediately sprung into action on behalf of those with fewer resources than her, and sued the state of Idaho. Her joint suit is pending and seeks to add clarifying language around what a healthcare provider can and cannot do to help a pregnant woman in need. You can see Jen and John featured on the Emmy-winning documentary IMPACT x Nightline: On the Brink with Diane Sawyer and Rachel Scott here: https://www.hulu.com/series/impact-x-nightline-on-the-brink-6908932d-1ba7-46ec-84d9-499cfcdf8e28 WARNING: This episode contains conversations about non-viable pregnancies, miscarriages, abortions, and adoption, which could be triggering for some. I am not a medical care provider and nothing in this episode is intended to be medical advice. Please speak to your own health care provider with any questions or concerns you have about your health and well-being and your healthcare choices.30. Our Identity Marks
16:31||Ep. 30Friends! In this week's episode of the Open That Door podcast I explore how our identity marks support us in our full authentic expression, or hinder us if they don't fit any more. What is an identity mark, you ask? Our name is the most obvious one, and in this episode I share my recent decision to change my last name to Rohrer, and the story behind that decision. What parts of your identity might be asking to be set free, changed, transformed? In the end, it's all about giving yourself permission to become the fullest version of who you know yourself to be and to experience more of who you authentically are.In return, we give the gift back to the world of making unique self-expression, beauty and authenticity permissible for all.Tune in here or watch on YouTube @hollisrohrer, and rate, review and share if you like what you hear!29. Flip the Switch with Greg Sims
01:08:23||Ep. 29Hollis proudly welcomes acting teacher and goal setting coach Greg Sims to the Open That Door podcast. Hollis is a big fan of Greg's having been his student in his one-of-a-kind PATH for the Actor classes on Zoom during COVID. Greg brings so much passion, enthusiasm, encouragement and energy to his daily 4-hour classes, and teaches a completely dynamic and effectively simple process for nailing auditions and delivering high-level, spontaneous performances with less stress and preparation time. His work and teachings are so much fun that you lose yourself in the process and end up delivering some of your best work as a result. Greg's own path didn't come easy, with early childhood trauma, addiction, and a compulsion to try to overcome a false belief that if he wasn't seen by others as a superstar actor he held no value in life. Everything changed when Greg learned to let go of that which he has no control over, and instead focus on two simple things he does have control over: what he's moving towards and what his attitude is. Reclaim What is Possible
22:23||Ep. 28It's time to pause, create much needed time and space for yourself, and reclaim what is rightfully yours: possibility. Access to what is possible, to opportunity, even in the face of adversity, is available to you right here, right now, my dear friend. I used to get stuck a lot in my life, feel disempowered and a victim to my circumstances. It was an awful way to live. Today, I live 180 degrees from that reality. I created a pathway for myself that allows me to use what is showing up as a difficulty or an obstacle, and create an opening for myself. The type of stuff that used to stop me, get me stuck or shut me down, is now that EXACT thing I need to create an opening in my pathway forward. Which means that you have ALL THE TOOLS you need right now inside you to do the same. When we trade in blame and victimhood for empowerment and freedom, the whole world shifts. And this process is easier than you think. Give yourself 22 minutes to listen to this episode and change your life. What you will learn is that it only takes 5 minutes or less to turn the world around for yourself. You deserve to have full access to your power, peace, happiness, and all that is possible for your life. **Rate, review and share the episode if you like what you hear and think someone else you know needs to hear it, too.**27. Under the Overlays
05:19||Ep. 27Host Hollis asks the question that we all should be asking if we want more fulfillment, purpose and joy: Do I give myself permission to think, feel or act this way? Our beliefs and actions are a byproduct of the permissions we've been granted and have accepted. Until we become aware that we are still adhering to rules and expectations — permission given to or taken from us by others — we are living under someone else's parameters. We may believe we are in the driver's seat, but if we are on autopilot or in adult amnesia when it comes to what we believe we are allowed to be, do and have, then we are actually the passenger in someone else's automatic.Who or what we give authority to is actually what guides our lives and life choices. It's the act of giving and receiving permission that is the real driver in our lives.Until we can dig in and ask this question, we are not guaranteed we are living true to our deeper needs and desires, free from influence and our fear of being judged and alienated or cast aside."Do I give myself permission" opens the door to a world where our intuitive knowing gets to step up and start making choices. The backside of this coin of freedom, authenticity and power is that when we are the granter of our own permission, we are also the one responsible for the results of our choices.Let this be good news! Take the pressure off yourself to get it right, and instead live to get it true. Let this be a practice in discovery, joy and cooperation with your intuition and deeper self. You do KNOW, you just need to give yourself permission to own that truth.26. 25 Episodes! Moments Worth Revisiting
