We talked about the Oilers' GM search and then a bunch of random nonsense

Ep. 394

It's Friday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Oilers' GM search, the Edmonton heat wave, and whatever random nonsense we could think of to fill the time.

The guys kicked off the podcast with a random collection of topics, including a weather report, English TV recommendations, and whatever else they could think of to kill time since there's not much going on. Even though the fellas knew they were supposed to talk about the Oilers, they took a while to actually get going.

Once they actually started talking about hockey, the conversation turned to who Jeff Jackson will hire as the Oilers' new general manager over the next few weeks. Will he pick an experienced candidate, as many people suspect, or will he go with a different candidate that no one sees coming? Either way, Jackson said earlier this week that he would like to get someone in place sooner rather than later, so it seems like it won't be much longer until we get our answer.

Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with some Ask the Idiots questions, Kennedy's quote game, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers. Despite the fact that nothing is happening in the hockey world right now, the fact that we were able to knock out more than an hour of hockey content is truly remarkable. That's not to say that we need a parade, but we wouldn't be opposed to one if someone would like to organize it.

  • 400. Will the Oilers make a trade before the season?

    58:03||Ep. 400
    With Friday being the 7th annual Oilersnation Open, the guys got together to drop this week's episode of Oilersnation Radio a day early. As always, they kicked things off with their delicious debate, which today was focused on the reports that the Oilers could be looking at the trade market as a way to address the right side of their blueline. Do the guys think Stan Bowman will make a splash before the season starts? Is that even the right move to make? They debated it.From there, they started talking about some other potential options on the blueline, specifically Tony DeAngelo. Frank Seravalli is reporting that DeAngelo would love to be an Oiler and would be willing to play for cheap. He's only 28-years-old but he comes with some baggage. The group talked about whether or he's a player worth considering to help solidify the blueline. They also talked about the NHL Network's ranking of the top 20 defensemen in the league, which featured two Oilers!During Ask The Idiots, they spoke about some big what if moments from NHL history, the bottom-six pieces they're most excited to watch next season, and Dan had a question about a personal conundrum he's facing.They wrapped up the show with their Hot & Cold Performers of the week and gave their predictions for the Oilersnation Open!💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 399. The Oilers walk on Holloway and Broberg, and some potential UFA d-men

    01:07:50||Ep. 399
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Oilers' decision not to match the offer sheets, whether the defence is good enough, and what moves might still come before the season starts. We started the podcast with a delicious debate about the Oilers' decision to walk away from the offer sheets for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Was it a good idea? Was it the best move they could have made? Should they have matched? As you'll hear, the boys were split on the team's decision. Needless to say, the boys weren't on the same page regarding the offer sheets.Next, the gang walked through the team's trades last weekend and whether those moves made anyone feel better about the team losing two quality prospects. As you'll hear, it's hard for the boys to get too excited about the trades when there's still plenty of fear of the unknown regarding what we have relative to what the team lost. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Even with all of the news that happened this past week, the boys still managed to yammer on for over an hour about everything in the world of hockey despite it only being late August. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 398. Can the Oilers find a way to keep both Broberg & Holloway?

    01:00:09||Ep. 398
    The boys are back with a Friday edition of Oilersnation Radio and for the first time in a few weeks, they have some actual news to break down. They began things by sinking their teeth into the offer sheet drama that unfolded this week. The Oilers were hit with dual predatory offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues and now they're at risk of having to watch both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg walk away. Can they keep them both? Should they let one of the two players walk? The guys began the show by talking about their initial reactions to the news and how the Oilers will handle this complicated situation.That led into some talk about who are some players the Oilers might need to part ways with if they're going to try and match both offer sheets. Could Cody Ceci or Brett Kulak be moved? Or should they just keep all their vets, let Broberg go and maybe hit the free agent market for a potential stop gap.They wrapped up the show with some Ask The Idiots Questions and their Hot & Cold Performers of the week, which featured talk about birthdays and the news that dropped this week surrounding the local football team!💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 397. The Biggest 'What Ifs' in Oilers History

    57:07||Ep. 397
    The boys are back for a Friday edition of Oilersnation Radio as they sit down for an hour of Oilers talk. To kick off today's pod, the guys talked about the news that Oscar Klefbom has officially retired. They talked about his career, which was cut way too short and that led into some talk about the biggest 'what ifs' in Oilers history. From draft blunders, to major injuries, and poor playoff performances, they debated the butterfly effects that would go with some of these major moments for the franchise.They then talked a little about when they expect Leon Draisaitl's contract extension to get done and Liam provided an update on how things are shaking out down at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. From there, they took some Ask The Idiots questions from the listeners which involved Oilers prospects, PTO options, and what to expect from both Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman next season.They wrapped up the podcast by talking about how many goals to expect from Connor McDavid next season for our friends at bet365 and they gave out their hot and cold performers of the week.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 396. Nothing is happening so we're waiting for the Oilers to extend Leon Draisaitl

    01:16:33||Ep. 396
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Leon Draisaitl extension, long weekend plans, some Baggedmilk Trivia, and whatever random nonsense we could think of to fill the time.The guys started this week's podcast with a delicious debate about how many Oilers we believe could realistically score 30 goals during the 2024-25 season. Given the calibre of forwards on Edmonton's roster, it's fair to drink the Kool-Aid and buy into the idea that the Oilers could have upward of four or five guys to reach the 30-goal mark. Despite the slow news time, the boys still had a few items to talk about from this past week, including MacT and Randy Gregg being the next players included in the Oilers' Hall of Fame. That led us to discuss who might be on next year's list and where the cutoff should be for inclusion. Just because we may feel a certain way about specific players, does that mean the Oilers will include them in their Hall of Fame? Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Even though there wasn't much to talk about, the boys still managed to yammer on for over an hour about everything from the Oilers to the Elks to chiming in on what's been happening at the summer Olympics.https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 395. Making sense of the Oilers hiring Stan Bowman as their new GM

    01:15:52||Ep. 395
    It's Friday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Stan Bowman hire, the Edmonton heat wave, and whatever random nonsense we could think of to fill the time.The guys kicked off the podcast with a delicious debate about the Stan Bowman hiring and whatever everyone thought about what was easily the most controversial move in recent memory. Given his history in Chicago, it's not surprising that the reaction from Oilers fans was filled with rage. Yet, despite the backlash, it was clear that the organization really doesn't care about what their fanbase thinks, which left a sour taste in many fans' mouths. Moving the podcast to what happens on the ice, Baggedmilk asked the fellas how much pressure they think Bowman is under to get the Oilers to finally win it all. Given that he wasn't the one who put this current team together, does he get a free pass on this first year as GM regardless of the results? Or should Oilers fans expect more from him than simply sitting back and watching what happens over the next 12 months?Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Even though there wasn't much to talk about, the boys still managed to yammer on for over an hour about everything from the Oilers to the NFL to how excited everyone is that the Olympics are finally up and running. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnationSHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 393. Getting excited about Matthew Savoie and all kinds of summer shenanigans

    01:16:19||Ep. 393
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Ryan McLeod trade, answering your questions, and discussing whatever else is going on in our lives.The guys kicked off the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about who is more likely to be on the opening night roster: Evander Kane or Cody Ceci. The Oilers are over the cap, so the team will need to do something to become cap-compliant, and a lot of folks are looking at those two players as potential options to move. Changing gears, the guys walked through an article series that Liam is working on that showcases the best and worst draft picks the Oilers have had outside of the first round. With the draft on our minds, we looked back at some of our favourite depth picks and then tortured ourselves by talking about some of the legit NHL players that were selected after. We can't wait to share this series with you!From there, the boys looked at the Ryan McLeod for Matthew Savoie trade and whether their opinion on the trade has changed in the last week after thinking about it a little bit. Even with some time to think things over, everybody on the podcast still loves the trade, even though it means losing a quality player in Ryan McLeod. It's a discussion that's sure to keep you entertained and engaged, as we thoroughly enjoyed talking about it. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Mill Woods Golf Course: https://www.millwoodsgolfcourse.com/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 392. Jeff Jackson crushed it as the Oilers' non-GM general manager

    01:11:16||Ep. 392
    It's Friday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking all things free agency, as the Oilers were major players in the NHL's annual fishing derby. Kicking off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio, the boys started the show with a delicious debate about everyone's favourite move from the first day of free agency. Even though the Oilers didn't have much cap space to spend, Jeff Jackson was able to do a lot to not only bring back his free agents but also improve the roster. The guys also offered their grades on all of the moves the Oilers made yesterday. From bringing back Connor Brown, Adam Henrique, and Mattias Janmark as UFAs to landing Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson as UFAs, Edmonton was one of the busier teams in the league on day one, and the fellas were pretty damned excited to talk about it. The guys wound down the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with some betting talk for bet365, as the sportsbook has already released some future bets for the 2024-25 season. Finally, the boys offered their takes on what the Oilers have left to do in free agency or if they think the team is done until training camp, provided they can clear the necessary cap space. Needless to say, this was the most excited that Oilers fans have been about heading into the summer that anyone can remember.
