Six straight Oilers wins with the opportunity for more

Ep. 260

The Oilers extended their winning streak to six games with a big win over the Cancuks on Saturday, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today’s show, we’re talking about trade pieces, untouchable prospects, Liam's trivia challenge, and a whole lot more.

To kick off this week’s Tuesday podcast, we got started with a conversation about potential trade pieces and whether or not there are truly any untouchable prospects if we're fishing for rentals at the deadline. If we're talking about making a trade for a guy that's strictly a rental for down the stretch, where should the line be drawn in terms of who's available? From there, we ran through a few housekeeping options as the Oilers only have two games this week, which also left plenty of room for shenanigans. From Liam's burger rankings to the weird English sandwiches he's pushing, we admittedly let the podcast fall off the rails for a few minutes. Getting back to the Oilers, Liam put together a trivia game for the boys that was incredibly difficult but was a great time anyway. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another riveting round of Word Association that Tyler spent so much work putting together.

  • 364. Giving Zach Hyman flowers for his first 50-goal season

    01:06:32
It's the Tuesday after the NHL trade deadline, and that means we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set and ready to discuss all things Edmonton Oilers. This week, we're talking about Evander Kane being out against the Senators, Zach Hyman's 50th goal, and offered a quick preview for tonight's game against the Jets. Kicking off the podcast, we started with a delicious debate about Evander Kane's maintenance day in Ottawa and whether or not it was actually a day to recover or if there was more to it than that. If you read into Kane's pre-game comments ahead of Tuesday's game against the Jets, it certainly seems like there was more to the story than a sitting out for lack of goal-scoring.Changing gears, we looked at Zach Hyman cashing in his 50th goal against the Ottawa Senators and how that goal spawned all kinds of interesting reactions from other fanbases. If you dig into the Internet deep enough, you can find all kinds of hilarious reactions to Hyman's 50-goal season, and we broke down some of the best of the bunch.Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Can You Clear That Up for Me with our boy Woz before wrapping up the podcast with some score predictions ahead of tonight's matchup with the Jets. As always, the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio was a blast to record, and we all hope you had just as much fun listening as we did making it.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼 WENDYs👍🏼 Bet 99👍🏼 DoorDash👍🏼 Snow Valley Aerial Park👍🏼 Rainbow Valley CampgroundReach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 363. Should Troy Stecher play every day on defence over someone else?

    01:12:30
It's Friday afternoon, and the Oilers are coming off a pair of big wins, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the latest episode of Oilersnation Radio. This week, we're looking at the Oilers' current win streak, Mattias Ekholm's big night, and a whole lot more.Kicking off the new episode of ONR, the podcast started with a delicious debate about whether or not Troy Stecher has done enough to become an everyday player over someone like Ceci or Desharnais. In last night's game against Buffalo, Stecher played very well while Ceci struggled a little bit, and that has Oilers fans wondering if it's time for a switch on defensive pairings.Continuing with our coverage of last night's win, we keyed in on a handful of fantastic performances that contributed to the win. From Mattias Ekholm's three-point night to Connor McDavid's four-point night to Darnell Nurse's game winner, there were plenty of fantastic stories from last night's win that were worth celebrating.Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a handful of Ask the Idiots questions, some betting talk for Bet99, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers before winding things down with some score predictions ahead of tomorrow's matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  • 362. Who is the ideal first round opponent for the Edmonton Oilers?

    58:02
It's the Tuesday after the NHL trade deadline, and that means we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set and ready to discuss all things Edmonton Oilers. This week, we're talking about Vinny Desharnais' hand injury, Saturday's loss vs. the Avalanche, and we learned why Liam thinks we should stop talking about the trade deadline. Starting off the podcast, we started the show with a delicious debate about which team we would prefer the Oilers to face in round one. Given that three or four teams could realistically line up as the Oilers' opponents in round one, the answers we gave for who we'd like to see them face in round one were quite varied. Looking at what's happening on the ice, we dissected Saturday's loss to the Colorado Avalanche and spoke about whether or not Edmonton was outclassed by the opposition. Some folks on social media wondered whether or not that loss meant the Oilers couldn't keep up with the Avs in a seven-game series, but none of us were buying that logic in the slightest. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Can You Clear That Up for Me with Woz before wrapping up the podcast with some score predictions ahead of tonight's matchup with the Habs. As always, the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio was a blast to record, and we all of hope you had just as much fun listening to this nonsense. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/OilersNation/ https://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/oilersnationdotcomhttps://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Play the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor Game for your chance to win (link in description below)👍🏼 WENDYs https://dailyfaceoffsurvivor.com👍🏼 DoorDash: https://www.doordash.com/👍🏼 Snow Valley/Rainbow Valley: https://www.snowvalley.ca/ 👍🏼 Bet99: https://bet99.com/ Reach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!
  • 361. Connor Brown gets his goal, and first impressions of the new guys

    01:11:48
There's nothing better than a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to cap off your week, am I right? Of course, I am. This week, we're talking about Connor Brown's first goal of the season, tomorrow's matchup versus the Colorado Avalanche, and a whole lot more.To kick off the podcast, we had a delicious debate about how Adam Henrique has performed through his first four games with the Edmonton Oilers. Given that he has only a single assist in his first few games, some Oilers fans are getting impatient with his lack of production, but is it fair to be concerned so early?Changing gears, we looked back at Wednesday's game against the Washington Capitals and how it was a huge night for a few reasons, including Connor Brown's first goal of the season. Even though it was only his first marker of the season, the way Oilers fans reacted to his goal was a fantastic moment at Rogers Place. It goes without saying that the win over the Caps could be the greatest mid-March game any of the fellas had ever experienced. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a handful of Ask the Idiots questions, some betting talk for Bet99, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers before winding things down with some score predictions ahead of tomorrow's matchup with the Colorado Avalanche.
  • 360. An up and down weekend for the Oilers and learning our capital cities

    01:11:30
It's the Tuesday after the NHL trade deadline, and that means we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set and ready to make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. This week, we're talking about an uneven weekend on the ice, first impressions of Edmonton's new players, and offering our takes on everything else that's going on around the NHL.Starting off the podcast, we didn't just discuss, but we engaged in a heated debate about the three most formidable threats to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference. With the West boasting some of the league's strongest teams, the journey to the Stanley Cup will be a fierce battle for the Oilers. We delved into which potential opponents would pose the most daunting challenges to overcome.Changing gears, we looked back at the Oilers' last couple of games and picked out our favourite elements/players from them. Given that the Oilers were both up and down this past weekend, we all offered very different answers as to who or what was the most impressive aspect of those games. We then played another round of Dan's 3v3 drafting game, and while the rules were initially confusing, we had an absolute blast with this round of the game. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Can You Clear That Up for Me with Woz before wrapping up the podcast with some score predictions from a light week in the schedule. As always, the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio was a blast to record, and we all of hope you had just as much fun listening to the chaos.
  • 359. The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline Recap

    01:18:09
It's NHL Trade Deadline Day, and that means there is a lot to talk about even though the Edmonton Oilers didn't do much.Kicking off the Friday episode of ONR, we got started with a delicious debate about the trade deadline and, specifically, whether the Oilers did enough to keep up with the rest of the Western Conference. Given that the Golden Knights and Jets made some big adds before the deadline, it's fair to wonder if Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, and Troy Stecher are enough to put the Oilers over the hump.We then looked around the NHL at what everyone else got done at the deadline, and we picked some winners and losers from the league's annual swap and shop. From LA not picking up a goaltender to some of the sellers maintaining players that could have brought in assets, there are a handful of teams that had a poor day overall. On the flip side, we also gave some love to Vegas, Carolina, and Nashville for putting in the work and improving their clubs for a stretch drive. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, we broke down the last handful of days in Oilers land, including a big win over the Boston Bruins and a tough loss to Columbus on Thursday. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a handful of Ask the Idiots questions, some betting talk for Bet99, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers.
  • 358. Oilers chasing down the Canucks for first place in the Pacific Division

    01:13:22
Tuesday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is here and ready to massage your eardrums with all of the delicious information you've been hoping for regarding our beloved Edmonton Oilers.Kicking off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a debate about whether or not the Oilers missed out on the Chris Tanev trade given that the Flames seemingly refused a better offer from Edmonton over what they got from the Dallas Stars. Seeing as the Oilers allegedly offered their first round pick along with Cody Ceci to get Chris Tanev, we discussed whether or not we'd have been happy if that deal went through. From there, we looked back at what was a successful weekend for the Oilers as they won both of their games and moved themselves into second place in the Pacific Division. Seeing as they were 20 points behind the Golden Knights back on December 20th, it's mind blowing to see how much ground the Oilers have gained in just over two months. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Can You Clear That Up For Me to help teach Woz about the NHL. We then wrapped up the podcast with another round of Dan's 3v3 game ahead of tonight's matchup with the Bruins. Who drafted the best team of players that played for both clubs? You'll have to listen to find out.
  • 357. Oilers needs at the trade deadline and a big back-to-back weekend

    01:14:00
It's Friday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of ONR is set and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're looking ahead at the back-to-back weekend for the Oilers, who might be available at the trade deadline, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the podcast, Baggedmilk got started with a quick thank you to everyone who has been reading and listening to his content over the last decade after discovering that March 1st is his 10-year anniversary at the company. As you'll hear, the road hasn't always been smooth within the company, but the reward for sticking it through has been immense.Getting back to the Oilers, the guys looked ahead to the trade deadline and whether or not the team should be feeling any pressure to make a move, even though the available crop of players isn't necessarily the best. Seeing as the trade options are limited, does that increase the pressure on Ken Holland to make something happen? Are we worrying about this too much?Lastly, we wrapped up this week's episode of ONR with a look at what's to come this weekend, as the Oilers have a pair of very important games against the Kraken and Penguins. Seeing as the Pacific Division is incredibly tight right now, the Oilers need to find a way to keep picking up wins, and that fact becomes all the more important when you have a back-to-back weekend like this one.
  • 356. Oilers back in the win column with big comeback victory over the Kings

    01:09:34
It's Tuesday afternoon, and that means it's time for a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to break down everything that's happening with the Edmonton Oilers. Kicking off the Tuesday episode of ONR, we got the podcast started with a delicious debate about the Oilers' deadline plans and whether or not our preferences for what Ken Holland does have changed, given the Oilers' recent struggles. Would the team be better off to get defensive depth over trying to find additional scoring up front?Changing gears, we looked back at the last handful of games and discussed how important it was that the Oilers found a way to beat the Kings last night at Rogers Place to halt their three-game losing streak. While it wasn't necessarily the perfect game, you have to appreciate the way the Oilers kept grinding until eventually wrestling the lead away in the third period to complete the four-point swing. Next up, we played Dan's ONR 3v3 game as a preview to tomorrow's clash with the St. Louis Blues where we all had to pick the best possible starting lineup we could with players that have played on both clubs. What we learned from this exercise is that none of us are all that familiar with the St. Louis Blues' history, which made this draft even more entertaining than initially expected.
