Oilersnation Radio
Looking back on our Oilers pre-season predictions and ahead at the LA Kings
There's nothing quite like a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to wrap up your Friday, get you prepped for tonight's game, and keep you updated on all things Edmonton Oilers. This week, the fellas recapped their pre-season predictions, looked ahead at the NHL playoffs, Oilers vs. Kings, and much more.
The guys kicked off the Friday episode of ONR by looking back at our preseason predictions and laughing about how wrong we were about almost everything. From goal predictions to point predictions to lineup decisions to everything in between, it was clear that the boys were feeling bullish on the team before the season started. As you'll hear, no one was close on pretty much anything, which made for a hilarious review.
Getting away from our prediction reviews, we looked ahead at the schedule for the first four games of the first round series against the Los Angeles Kings. We also discussed how many pundits are picking the Kings to win this series, and whether or not having the lowered expectations will help them in this series. While there's no doubt L.A. was fantastic on home ice, maybe having people look at the Oilers as underdogs might be beneficial.
Finally, the guys wrapped up the Friday episode of the podcast with another round of betting talk, Ask the Idiots, and Hot and Cold Performers to recap the last week of our lives. Whether it was talking about Tyler getting old, the PGA's TV tactics, or Joey Moss' legacy, there was plenty to discuss on the Friday episode of ONR.

On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Western Conference contenders, goaltending, the Jays' run, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Western Conference contenders and whether any of the teams with Stanley Cup dreams have gotten better. Outside of maybe the Vegas Golden Knights, who locked in Mitch Marner as their big free agent play, there aren't many other clubs you could say legitimately got better. Maybe that's the boys drinking the July Kool-Aid, but everyone on the podcast still feels bullish on Edmonton's chances to get through the west.Next, we kicked off the news segment of the podcast with a quick recap of the limited news items that had occurred over the last week and speculated on whether we would receive any new updates over the next handful of days or weeks. With nothing happening, we looked at some quotes from Corey Perry about leaving Edmonton, Warren Foegele's wedding, and ran through a few quotes from Stan Bowman about the goaltending. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With just over two months left until the start of the 2025-26 season, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about why we should feel confident heading into this next season and how the Oilers are a much different hockey team this time around.481. While everyone thinks the roster is mostly set, that doesn't mean that Stan Bowman won't still be working the phones to seek potential upgrades regardless of the position. Will Bowman surprise us with a trade no one sees coming? Is he done making moves for now?Changing gears, we looked through some of the news that came down the pipe over the last week, and gave our takes on what's still left to be done. From the CBA being extended to the 2025-26 NHL schedule being released to where the Oilers are with their goalie search, the guys walked through all of the biggest stories in Edmonton. Welcoming Ike Howard To Edmonton & More Oilers Offseason Talk
57:00||Ep. 480Tyler, Liam, Rick and Dan sat down for a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio. The group had some fresh news to talk about as well as on Tuesday, the Oilers acquired Ike Howard from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Sam O’Reilly. They discussed their initial reactions to the deal, where The 2025 Hobey Baker award winner was the top player could fit in the lineup next season, and which centre he could fit best next to. They also talked about the mini youth movement that could be happening next season in Edmonton and what the expectations should be for young players like Howard and Matt Savoie. From there, they talked about whether or not they think Oilers GM Stan Bowman is done for the summer. There are rumblings that they still might be looking to upgrade their goaltending tandem. They also touched on the recent rumours that Darnell Nurse was asked to waive his no-movement clause but refused. Nurse himself threw cold water on it, but the guys still talked about the idea that he could be traded at some point. To wrap up the pod, they hit on the Calder Trophy odds and a few over/unders for some players who are joining new teams next season on Bet365. They also gave out their hot performers for the week which included the Blue Jays, a viral fight involving a former NHLer, the new CBA, and the zoo.479. Have the Oilers done enough?
01:07:09||Ep. 479It’s been a slow week for the Edmonton Oilers, despite the start of free agency. The club signed a couple of players — Andrew Mangiapane and Curtis Lazar — but has yet to address goaltending or make any changes on the blue-line. Has general manager Stan Bowman done enough, or is the team still missing a few pieces to truly compete? The guys kick things off with the Delicious Debate, brought to you by Odd Company.Despite the lack of big-name additions, reports linked the Oilers to college standout Isaac Howard. A former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Howard has reportedly declined to sign with the Bolts. Edmonton is rumoured to have made a trade offer for his rights, but it wasn’t enough. Should the Oilers continue to pursue Howard, and would he actually move the needle?Later in the episode, the guys discuss potential goaltending options, how the roster might shape up next season, and whether Evan Bouchard deserves a spot on Team Canada. The show wraps up with Ask the Idiots and the Hot and Cold Performers segment.Ask Dubey: Free Agent Frenzy and Goalie Fights | Ep10

Checking in on the Oilers' free agency
01:01:45||Ep. 478Free agency day means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your earholes and bring you up to date on everything going on with the Edmonton Oilers. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Evan Bouchard extension, the NHL Draft, Kasperi Kapanen, and much more.We kicked off the Monday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about where everyone is at with Evan Bouchard's four-year, $10.5m AAV contract, and whether it's not more of a problem that Bowman wasn't able to lock in the max term. We also discussed the Oilers re-signing both Kasperi Kapanen and Noah Philp before they were able to reach free agency, likely with the plan of having both of these players start on the opening day roster. Chances are, the Oilers are going to be tight for cap space when October rolls around, and they'll need cheaper deals on the books to fill holes in the roster. With plenty of time left to go until the deals slow down, the boys walked through some of our former friends who signed elsewhere on Tuesday, including Corey Perry's new deal in Los Angeles and Connor Brown's contract in New Jersey. While we all expected a quieter day in Edmonton given the team's lack of cap space, that doesn't make it any easier to see contributing roster players sign for big smoke in other markets. Regardless, the deals signed in the early hours on July 1st don't mean the Oilers are anywhere close to done, but that didn't stop many Oilers fans from being disappointed anyway.Regardless of what the Oilers have done or haven't done yet, there's little doubt that teams are spending big money on free agents with the salary cap expected to fly up over the next handful of years. In fact, one could make the argument that the Oilers could be better off avoiding some of these overpriced free agents, especially with the dollars that some mid-tier UFAs are signing on extended deals. Is that coping? Potentially yes.477. Trent Frederic's Oilers extension, Evander Kane trade, and free agency
01:16:39||Ep. 477Friday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to be enjoyed. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed what's to come for the Oilers, Trent Frederic's new contract, the NHL Draft, free agency, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about the Trent Frederic contract extension and what everyone's first thoughts are on the deal. From the max-term contract to the $3.85m AAV to the no-trade protection of various types throughout the life of the contract, the boys had plenty to say about our newest long-term friend.Changing gears, we explored some of the latest news and rumours surrounding the Oilers as they head into the offseason, and assessed the realism of these ideas given the team's limited cap space. Naturally, we all have high hopes that Stan Bowman will be able to make some magic happen, but we all know that many of the hopes and dreams we all have for the franchise. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With the NHL Draft and free agency on deck, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode talking about what to expect over the next week, and how the Oilers could look like a much different hockey team by this time next week.476. Offseason Targets, Trade Buzz, and HHOF Inductees
52:54||Ep. 476It’s almost been a week since the Edmonton Oilers lost in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers. With that, transaction discuss has begun. It’s clear the Oilers are wanting a new goaltender, but where could that player come from? Tyler, Liam, Dan and Zach discuss the possibility of acquiring Thatcher Demko from the Vancouver Canucks or John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks. Would the Canucks be willing to make a trade with a division rival? What is the price for Gibson, after he said he’d be willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Oilers?Furthermore, besides acquiring a goaltender, what would a perfect offseason look like for Stan Bowman? The guys discussed talked about it during there Odd Company Delicious Debate. Do the Oilers need another top six forward? Do the prospects need more love? Is signing Connor McDavid the biggest priority? Finally, the closed out the show discussing the 2025 Hall of Fame class, which included former Oiler Duncan Keith. That lead to the conversation of how many current Oilers could make the hall of fame? All that and more on this Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio.
