Can the Oilers drag the Panthers back to Alberta in Game 5?

Ep. 388

The Edmonton Oilers are fighting for their lives tonight in Game 5, which meant there was plenty for the boys to discuss on the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On the Tuesday episode of ONR, the boys covered the Oilers' commanding Game 4 win, what they need to do to extend the series, and the rumours from last week that the team has engaged in extension talks with Leon Draisaitl.

We kicked off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about why everyone thinks the Oilers will still be alive tomorrow morning. Everybody knows how tough it's going to be for the Oilers to go into Sunrise and win their first road game of the series with their backs against the wall, but Baggedmilk wanted to hear why everyone thinks the job can still get done. No one is saying it will be easy, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Changing gears, the guys needed to spend some time discussing what it was like to experience a Stanley Cup Final win in Edmonton on Saturday night. Whether you were at the game or downtown, the celebration was unavoidable, and the jubilation was very easy to get swept up in. And since the Oilers won Game 4 so handily, it was fair to wonder if any of the lessons and successes from that win can carry over into a do-or-die Game 5 matchup on the road.

Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday edition of ONR with another round of Dan's 3v3 game, which was all about the greatest comebacks we could think of. Finally, Baggedmilk stepped in for Woz for another edition of Can You Clear That Up For Me, which was centred around the parallels between the NBA/NHL finals and whether or not the Oilers' season can be deemed a success regardless of the result in Game 5.

  • 520. Have the Oilers solved their goaltending issue?

    01:04:47||Ep. 520
    It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' 1000th game, back-to-back shutouts, Kasperi Kapanen's injury, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about when the Oilers might consider talking to Connor Ingram about an extension. Given that our new friend has been playing incredibly well since his recall from Bakersfield, it's fair to wonder whether or when the organization might start thinking about keeping him around for a while. Is it too soon? How much would the boys be willing to offer the goalie in a new contract?Changing gears, we looked at Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' 1000th game that happened at Rogers Place on Thursday night, and how the team did a fantastic job paying tribute to their longest serving player. From the pre-game ceremony to scoring the eventual game winner, it was a wonderful night at Rogers Place and one the guys were thrilled to discuss. Changing gears, the boys looked at the Andrew Mangiapane situation and whether or not there's any way the Oilers can save the relationship. Is that even in the cards? Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia. With none of the other boys coming up with anything new, the guys went back to old faithful with a round of Devils-related Baggedmilk Trivia questions. Think you know your New Jersey history? This game was for you. Did the quizmaster have to step in? Did Baggedmilk get his questions right? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.

He also walks us through a few of his most memorable saves and what’s going through a goalie’s mind in those high-pressure moments.Then, it’s all about Connor McDavid. Dubnyk gives a goalie’s perspective on trying to stop a player on a 20-game point streak, what makes McDavid so dangerous every single night, and how rare this kind of run really is in today’s NHL.Have a question you want Devan Dubnyk to answer on a future episode? • 519. Oilers get goalie'd, goaltending decisions, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' 1000th game

    01:02:40||Ep. 519
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' loss to the Islanders, the end of Connor McDavid's point streak, Edmonton's goaltending dilemma, line combos, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Oilers' goaltending situation and tried to figure out how the team will solve it. Given that carrying three goaltenders is less than ideal, the organization will eventually have to make a decision. Given how well Ingram has played since being recalled, it seems completely unlikely that Connor Ingram will be the one to go, but it's clear that the organization still respects what Calvin Pickard has done in his time here. Shifting gears, the guys looked at last night's loss to the New York Islanders, and Ilya Sorokin absolutely robbed them of two points by standing on his head. Given how well New York's goalie played, it's almost impossible to be too upset about the result, but that didn't stop the boys from being slightly annoyed anyway. They also discussed Andrew Mangiapane being a healthy scratch again and looked at what it will take to get him either in the mix or out of the market. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week that was. With the 2025-26 season now past the halfway mark, the guys spent the bulk of the podcast moving through a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that’s the way things go on the Friday episode of ONR.
  • 518. "You can't win if you don't lead"

    01:02:17||Ep. 518
    It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed Connor McDavid's heater, Tristan Jarry and Jake Walman's return, Quinn Hutson's new contract, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about why the Oilers can't seem to win three games in a row, despite having eight chances to do so. While it's not a big deal because the team is winning more games than it loses, it is bizarre that the Oilers can't seem to string wins together. For an additional delicious debate, we looked at Edmonton's goaltending situation and took a few swings at when the three-headed monster situation will be resolved.Changing gears, we looked at last night's 4-1 win over Chicago and gave Connor Ingram the flowers he deserves for a fantastic performance between the pipes. Despite the scoreline ending as a three-goal Oilers win, the result would have been much different without Ingram's brilliance. We also discussed Connor McDavid's 19-game point streak and how this run has been so dominant that every other team is dying to find out how to stop him.Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia. With Dan on vacation and none of the other boys coming up with anything, the guys went back to old faithful with a round of Predators-related questions. Did the quizmaster have to step in and get involved? Did Baggedmilk get his questions right? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.

    17:11|
    Ask Dubey episode 28 is here, and we’re going deep into the mental side of being a pro athlete. Devan Dubnyk opens up about the real mental struggles of being an NHL goalie, how anxiety shows up in high-pressure moments, and what finally changed the way he approached the game between the ears.Dubnyk also weighs in on Connor McDavid’s ridiculous post-Christmas heater and how the Edmonton Oilers have been playing since the break.In this episode of Ask Dubey, Devan breaks down:• The moment that completely changed how he approached the mental side of goaltending• How his mindset shifted after his time in Edmonton and how his game grew because of it• The reality of performance anxiety as a goalie and why it hits different in the crease• Practical ways players and goalies can deal with anxiety and pressure on and off the ice• Why mental preparation, routines, and self-talk matter just as much as physical training• His thoughts on Connor McDavid’s major heater and the Oilers’ play after the Christmas breakIf you’re a goalie, a player, or just a fan who’s curious about what’s really going on behind the mask, this one’s for you.Have a question you want Devan Dubnyk to answer on a future episode? • 517. Oilers win, the Jets stink, and more NHL trade rumours

    01:02:44||Ep. 517
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Tristan Jarry's injury, the Oilers' recall of Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson, additional injury updates, line combos, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Connor McDavid's 17-game point streak and whether this is the best the boys have ever seen him play. Given that the captain has produced a mind-boggling 41 points over that stretch is absolutely ridiculous, but is this the best hockey he's ever played? There are a few options to choose from. Regardless of your thoughts, there is little doubt that No. 97 has gone supernova, and none of us wants him to walk away from the table.Shifting gears, the guys looked at Thursday's win over the Jets and how Winnipeg looked so shell-shocked as the game rolled along. Given that the Oilers were down 3-1 after 20 minutes and came roaring back to win, you have to appreciate the way the boys didn't fold their hand. And while some argue that they should beat the Jets because of how bad they are, expecting to win and fighting back from a 3-1 deficit are two different things.Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week that was. With the 2025-26 season now past the halfway mark, the guys spent the bulk of the podcast moving through a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that’s the way things go on the Friday episode of ONR.
  • 516. Oilers look to stop the slide, Kasperi Kapanen returns, and healthy scratches

    01:01:11||Ep. 516
    It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed the Oilers' struggling bottom six, Kasperi Kapanen's return, Trent Frederic and Andrew Mangiapane being healthy scratched, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about what the Oilers can do to get more production out of their bottom six. Given that players like Mangiapane, Frederic, and Henrique haven't scored nearly as much as we'd hope, the question was how the team can get more out of them without just trading someone away. Whether it's giving these guys a defined role or keeping them as healthy scratches, the boys tried their best to figure out a problem the coaches have struggled with all season. Changing gears, we looked at Kasperi Kapanen's return to the lineup and how having him back in the mix gives Kris Knoblauch more line combo options to play with. Given that Kapanen has missed the bulk of the season, it's going to be interesting to see how long he lasts beside Leon Draisaitl, since it's probably going to take a minute for him to get going. The guys also spent some time looking at Andrew Mangiapane and Trent Frederic as healthy scratches and what the decision means for both players moving forward. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with a round of Dan's Game. Seeing as the boys are trying to keep things fresh, Dan wanted to whip something up for the boys to give the first show of the week a little bit of a different flavour. We can't have the quizmaster on call all the time, you know? Did Dan's game work? Will it replace BM's Trivia? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Powered by @bet365. • 515. Oilers undefeated in 2026, and Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson recalled

    01:15:09||Ep. 515
    It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Tristan Jarry's injury, the Oilers' recall of Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson, additional injury updates, line combos, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about whether or not the boys on the podcast would trade a prospect like Isaac Howard to Nashville in exchange for Filip Forsberg or a legit top-six winger like him. Given that Edmonton looks to be all in on another run at the Stanley Cup, would it make sense to flip a younger player like Howard to get a more proven player? Is there another solution the fellas didn't even think about?Shifting gears, the guys looked at the recall of Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson from the Bakersfield Condors and how the two will fit into the lineup on their second tour of duty with the NHL club. Will these two get a chance to play significant minutes? Will they be stuck playing very little, and folks wonder why they can't produce? Only time will tell. What we do know for sure is that the Oilers need more scoring from their bottom six, and it will be fascinating to see how/if at all, these two can help solve the problem. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week that was. With the 2025-26 season reaching the halfway mark, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode moving through a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that’s the way things go during the weird time between Christmas and New Year's.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Powered by @bet365.
