The Edmonton Oilers wrapped up their final regular season home game in disappointing fashion, getting shut out 5-0 by the LA Kings. With the win, the Kings officially clinched home ice advantage for the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where they’ll now host the Oilers when the postseason begins next week. It was a rough night for Edmonton, who played without some of their biggest stars — nearly $40 million worth of players were up in the press box due to injury, including Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and more.

Despite the depleted lineup, there was no shortage of intensity. The game featured a number of heavy hits and classic playoff-style scrums. The most heated moment of the night came in the third period, when Darnell Nurse cross-checked Quinton Byfield in the back of the head after the whistle. Nurse was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct and will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety later today. Will he be suspended? Will it be just a fine? Calvin Pickard was under siege for most of the night, facing 36 shots and allowing five goals in what turned out to be a tough outing for the Oilers’ netminder. The team simply couldn’t get anything going offensively and were thoroughly outplayed by a Kings squad that looked playoff-ready.
