Off The Lead

2026 Ep#4

The Psychological Significance of a New Haircut

Can a new haircut be more than just a change in appearance? Hair is closely tied to identity and self-expression, so changing it can become a small but meaningful act of autonomy—one that reflects an internal shift or a desire to be seen differently.

In this episode, I explore how bravery works like a muscle: when we exercise it through small acts of courage, it grows stronger; when we continually avoid what frightens us, it can begin to atrophy.

If you feel like you need to get out of your own way, could it be a sign that you’ve been hiding behind yourself—or protecting an outdated version of who you are? I also do my best to expand on the Off the Lead philosophy and worldview.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts at imoffthelead@gmail.com.

In this episode, I revisit a note I wrote on my phone about a year ago and unpack what’s changed since.I explore the difference between fully committing to something versus half‑arsing it, and what I call being a “high achiever” versus a “wide achiever.” I share some honest thoughts about regret, mortality, and the reality that while there’s still plenty I haven’t done yet, I’m genuinely happy with the direction and pace of my progress.I talk about the power of starting new projects, “hoovering up the low‑hanging fruit,” and why having clear metrics to judge your progress and your program can make all the difference. As always I can be contacted on imoffthelead@gmail.com

In this episode, I explore the idea of “attention farming”—the process of uploading to social media in order to grab and hold people’s attention.Controversy is a tried-and-tested way to do that, so I discuss my plans to “weaponise” some of the more controversial opinions I hold to catch people’s attention and get people thinking. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts—while I’m still not famous enough to ignore them. You can reach me at imoffthelead@gmail.com.

I’m finally back, taking my own advice and getting out of my own way.In this episode, I explain the main reason I’ve recently started uploading to social media and why, at least in part, I decided to take on the 337 km Co. Meath Border run.I also outline my creative process and expand on Rick Rubin’s mantra: “The audience comes last.”If you’ve been following my journey, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach me at imoffthelead@gmail.com—but only until I become too famous and important to read my emails.
