This week’s Present Pleasures:Summer House (1:45)Ladies of London season finale (16:30)Real Housewives of Rhode Island (21:35)Met Gala 2026 review (33:55) -- described as brief, goes on for 20 minutesMike & Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016, 53:57) is a comedy about two brothers played by Zac Efron and Adam Devine who need to find dates to their sister's wedding so they put an ad on Craigslist that goes viral. Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick in turn play two mischievous friends who trick the brother into thinking they'll be sweet responsible dates to impress the family in order to score a free vacation. Chaos ensues, and you get one of the funniest movies in the past 10 years. This week’s Present Pleasures:Maura Higgins & Ciara Miller announced for Dancing with the Stars (1:15)Southern Hospitality (3:19)Summer House (6:00)The Valley (12:10)50 First Dates (2004, 21:10) is a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore about a man who falls for a woman with short-term memory loss reliving the same day over and over again, so she's meeting him for the first time every time. While Adam and Drew have so much charisma, this movie doesn't have a lot of jokes that still hit the same way today, and it's clearly adapted from a script that was way more Nicholas Sparks than SNL. There's a ton of comedy in the vein of Bridget Jones humor while tugging at your heartstrings with the leads' big romantic puppy eyes for each other. It also features a pre Daisy Jones & the Six pairing between Sam Claflin and Suki Waterhouse! If you're into the friends to lovers, will they/won't they tropes, this movie is for you. Winning London (2001, 17:17) is an all-time Olsen Twins movie where Mary-Kate & Ashley play high schoolers from California selected to compete in a global Model UN conference hosted in London, England. Romance and cross-cultural hijinks ensue. Post the success of The Hangover, male friend group comedies were ruling the theaters and while this one may not be the first that comes to mind, it definitely would've been one of those movies you'd watch on cable during a lazy weekend home. What started as a Twilight fan fiction and self-proclaimed midlife crisis project turned into a worldwide phenomenon starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively. Christian is a billionaire who meets graduating college student Anastasia and tries to negotiate initiating a dominant-submissive relationship with her while she'd prefer a traditional romance. Ruby flies solo talking about the hidden gems in these movies while also noting why they don't have the staying power of other modern romance movies of the 2010s.
