Guest host James Heather sits down to chat with Julianna Barwick on a cold winters day in January. Julianna is a composer, vocalist and producer who makes deep, reflective compositions out of the human voice. Her fourth and latest album, “Healing Is A Miracle”, released in 2020, is a distinctive meditation on sound, reverb and the voice and was released on Ninja Tune. Julianna picks and talks about the songs that have influenced and signposted her life (including William Basinski, Bjork & Apex Twin) and also talks about her love of singing caves, Rnb Karaoke, making music on Garageband and how Enya is underrated. Mind have been working in partnership with Ninja Tune, Paradigm, POLY and Percolate to raise awareness of mental health across the electronic music industry and in the podcast, Emma was joined by Simon Denby (Percolate), ELKKA (Technicolour / femme culture), Peach (NTS) and Yaya Bey (Big Dada). They explored issues like stigma, how to take care of your mental health while working in the industry and what needs to change across the industry to make it more supportive of people’s mental health.
