Bills' Allen Leads Comeback, Benford's Pick-Six Secures Win
•
Josh Allens Historic Performance Leads Bills to Comeback Victory
In a thrilling game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Buffalo Bills secured a remarkable comeback win, improving their record to nine wins and four losses. Despite a snowy Highmark Stadium, the Bills overcame a ten-point deficit in the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns in less than five minutes. Quarterback Josh Allen made history, becoming the first player in the NFL to achieve twenty or more passing touchdowns and ten or more rushing touchdowns for three seasons in a row. His forty-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter was also the longest regular-season rushing touchdown by a quarterback in team history.
Several key players were sidelined due to injuries, including wide receiver Joshua Palmer, right tackle Spencer Brown, and linebacker Terrel Bernard. Defensive end Joey Bosa also missed his first game of the season because of a hamstring injury. With Spencer Brown out, Ryan Van Demark stepped in at tackle, playing every offensive snap. While he had some struggles, he provided enough time for Allen to work his magic.
Allen was clearly the star of the game, accounting for four touchdowns, three passing and one rushing. He converted multiple crucial fourth downs, showcasing his ability to extend plays and make things happen, especially in late-game situations. Running back James Cook had a hundred and one scrimmage yards, but a fumble on the two-yard line was a costly mistake.
On the defensive side, linebacker Shaq Thompson played every single snap, leading the unit with his strong performance, especially against the run. Safety Cole Bishop left the game early due to cramping, and veteran Jordan Poyer stepped up, leading the team with eight tackles.
The defense truly turned the tide in the fourth quarter with a sixty-three-yard pick-six by cornerback Christian Benford. This marked Benfords second defensive touchdown in as many weeks, making him the first player in team history to achieve this feat. Following that, defensive end A.J. Epenesa intercepted a tipped pass, further solidifying the Bills comeback.
