A Toronto police officer is facing a criminal charge after allegedly accessing private police databases without authorization. Police allege Const. Abbas Popal, 25, accessed the databases multiple times between January 2024 and April 2025. Popal, who had approximately three years of service and was assigned to 55 Division, was charged with unauthorized use of a computer and suspended with pay. Toronto Police said the case was not connected to Project South, a separate investigation involving allegations of police corruption and organized crime. New research is providing scientists with a fascinating look at what may be happening inside the ADHD brain during moments of lost focus. Researchers found that adults with ADHD displayed higher levels of sleep-like slow-wave brain activity even while they were awake and completing an attention task. The study found that increased slow-wave activity was connected with attention lapses, slower reaction times, mind-wandering and greater feelings of sleepiness. Researchers believe these brief periods of “local sleep,” where certain areas of the brain temporarily display sleep-like activity while the person remains awake, could help explain why attention can fluctuate in people with ADHD. The findings don't mean that the ADHD brain is literally asleep during the day. Instead, they point to a possible neurological connection between sleep, alertness and some of the attention difficulties associated with ADHD.
