Metrolinx Introducing Body Cam, Writing Notes or Notes on Phone, What Does it Mean and Canada Post Moving to End Home Delivery
This week on Next Take Podcast, Canada’s own Mikel and Tanyka break down a mix of Canadian news and everyday debate. They discuss Metrolinx introducing body cameras, weigh the pros and cons of writing notes by hand versus using a phone, and examine Canada Post’s move toward ending home delivery.
Metrolinx is bringing body-worn cameras to frontline transit staff across the GO Transit and UP Express network, marking a new approach to safety and accountability on Ontario’s transit system. The cameras can capture audio and video during certain safety, investigative and fare-enforcement interactions. Metrolinx says the technology is designed to provide a clearer record of incidents while promoting transparency and protecting both passengers and employees. (via Source City News Toronto)
In a world where our phones are almost always within reach, is it better to type an important thought into your phone—or reach for a pen and write it down? Research comparing paper notebooks with smartphones and tablets suggests that traditional note-taking may offer advantages for how we process and remember information. But digital notes have their own strengths, including convenience, organization, searchability, and having your notes available almost anywhere. (via Source: Frontiers)
Canada Post is moving ahead with a major transformation of how millions of Canadians receive their mail. The postal service plans to transition approximately four million addresses from traditional door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes over the next several years. But what does this change actually mean for Canadians? We break down why Canada Post is making the move, when communities could see their delivery change, how community mailboxes will work, and what accommodations may be available for people who have difficulty accessing their mail. 115. The Countess of Hungary (Third Annual Halloween Series)
37:45||Season 3, Ep. 115This week on Next Take Podcast, Canada’s own Mikel and Tanyka kick off the Third Annual Halloween Series with a chilling look at The Countess of Hungary.Known throughout history as the “Blood Countess,” Elizabeth Báthory was a powerful Hungarian noblewoman whose name became connected to some of Europe’s most disturbing legends. Born in 1560, Báthory was accused of brutally torturing and killing young women and girls across her estates. In 1610, authorities moved against her, and she was ultimately confined to Castle Čachtice, where she remained until her death in 1614. Over the centuries, her story grew even darker, with legends claiming she bathed in the blood of young women in an attempt to preserve her youth. However, that infamous detail does not appear in contemporary witness accounts and emerged long after her death. Historians have also questioned aspects of the case against her, including the reliability of testimony and whether political and financial interests played a role.Streaming LinksSpotify: https://shorturl.at/dehuEApple: https://shorturl.at/fyMNZYoutube: https://shorturl.at/fuyJQSocial Media:Website: https://solo.to/nexttakepodcastEpisode Produced By: TanykaUploaded By: Mikel Miles

109. Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway Have a Message and Transgender Girls Told to Leave Girlguiding
01:20:06||Season 3, Ep. 109This week on Next Take Podcast, Canada’s own Mikel and Tanyka break down two stories making headlines: a message from Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway, and the controversy surrounding transgender girls being told to leave Girlguiding. They examine the stories, the reactions, and the wider conversations they’ve sparked.Ryan Gosling and Anne Hathaway are speaking up about Hollywood’s responsibilities. Gosling says bringing audiences back to cinemas starts with filmmakers creating movies worth seeing on the big screen. Meanwhile, according to Meryl Streep, Hathaway urged producers of The Devil Wears Prada 2 to avoid featuring models whose extreme thinness had concerned them. Their comments raise questions about how the entertainment industry earns audiences’ support and shapes the beauty standards reflected on screen. (via source: Variety - Ryan Gosling Tells Hollywood It’s Not Moviegoers’ Job to Keep Theatres Open: ‘It’s Our Job to Make Things’ That Are ‘Worth’ Viewers Coming Out ) and The People Magazine - Meryl Streep Says Anne Hathaway Told Devil Wears Prada 2 Producers Not to Cast Models Who Are 'So Skeletal'Girlguiding has introduced a major change to its membership rules, requiring transgender girls and young women who were already members to leave the organization by September 6, 2026.The decision follows Girlguiding’s December 2025 announcement that transgender girls would no longer be accepted as new members. The organization says the changes were made following the UK Supreme Court’s 2025 ruling on the legal definitions of “woman” and “sex” under the Equality Act 2010. Girlguiding says the transition period was intended to give affected members and their families time to prepare and access support. The decision has sparked sharply different reactions, with transgender-rights advocates criticizing the policy as exclusionary while supporters of sex-based membership rules argue that it preserves Girlguiding as a single-sex organization. The controversy raises a broader question about how youth organizations balance inclusion, single-sex membership, and changing interpretations of equality law.
