Big magic and thinking outside of the box

Season 1, Ep. 1

Welcome to New Rules: the podcast about how leaders, entrepreneurs and businesses must change, break and re-write the rules to innovate in our ever-changing and complex world. Host, Ruth Cooper-Dickson (Positive Psychology Practitioner) will be joined by a guest who is a leader and respected expert in their own industry having a real honest conversation about their experiences of innovating their business through the lens of a positive psychology theme.

In our first episode I talk to Katrina Larkin, FORA co-founder and a pioneer in the festival world. Katrina co-founded the internationally recognised brand ‘The Big Chill Festival’ in 1994. In 2013 Katrina began working with Brockton Capital Fund II L.P. on the redevelopment, re-branding and curation of Camden Lock Market, with great success. FORA is now leading the way in co-working, so I ask Katrina to share her personal nuggets on creating big magic and thinking outside of the box.

  • 7. Forgiveness as a business leader

    50:38||Season 1, Ep. 7
Our last episode of the season had to finish on a deep topic and the wonderful David McQueen and I go there with the concept of forgiveness. David literally has the best energy of any human I know, and the conversation is unstoppable (by his own confession he is an open book!). David is a leading executive coach, facilitator and speaker. He is the co-founder of Q Squared, a leadership development company and the host of the Leadership Decoded podcast. David brings a refreshing insight of adopting forgiveness in the workplace, especially in leadership. Brutally honest about how he needs to forgive himself before sitting and listening to others with empathy, and how he has reconciled sharing his business knowledge with the wider public whilst simultaneously building his highly successful family firm.  Follow David McQueen on Instagram  Follow Ruth Cooper Dickson on Instagram Twitter LinkedInCheck out CHAMPS on Instagram Twitter Facebook
  • 6. Authenticity, connection and imposter phenomenon

    44:36||Season 1, Ep. 6
I first met Jo Wimble-Groves at a FORA panel for International Women’s Day in 2019. Immediately I was attracted to her warm presence and down-to-earth self, so it was fitting I wanted to explore the concept of authenticity with her on this episode. Jo is a multi award-winning tech entrepreneur and co-owner of Active Digital which she has run with her brother for over two decades. A vocal STEM ambassador, a mother of three, the creator of the Guilty Mother blog and her first book is due to be published in late 2021! Seriously, the woman is a legend. Jo advocates the importance of believing in yourself, the art of connection and authenticity in your business. It is refreshing to hear that even when we are at the top of our career game, we can all experience imposter phenomenon, especially when 10 Downing Street requests your presence!  Follow Jo Wimble-Groves Instagram Twitter Facebook Follow Ruth Cooper Dickson on Instagram Twitter LinkedInCheck out CHAMPS on Instagram Twitter Facebook
  • 5. How to ‘be more scientist’ in your creativity and flow

    46:23||Season 1, Ep. 5
In this episode I dig deep on the concept of creativity and being ‘in flow’ with the phenomenal, award-winning mental health campaigner, Meg Zeenat Wamithi. Meg is a revolutionary young leader who, inspired by her own difficult experience, created a youth-led mental health research and development company to support those suffering with mental health issues. Meg talks about how to ‘be more scientist’ and how we can all unlock creativity and flow simply by asking more questions.  Follow Meg Zeenat Wamithi on Instagram Twitter Facebook  Follow Ruth Cooper Dickson on Instagram Twitter LinkedInCheck out CHAMPS on Instagram Twitter Facebook
  • 4. Grit, resilience and growth mind-set

    46:07||Season 1, Ep. 4
If I were to chat to anyone about grit, resilience and growth mind-set, then this episode is the absolute one, with award-winning chef, author and social entrepreneur, Simon Boyle. Simon is the founder of the charity, Beyond Food Foundation, where he uses food as a catalyst for social change, including Beyond Food’s home and social enterprise restaurant, Brigade Bar + Kitchen. In addition Simon has new venture, Made Again; its mission, to support the hospitality industry through the tumultuous global pandemic. Simon is downright bloody inspiring. I love his interpretation of the ‘thread of life’ and how we can easily lose the connection. Plus the importance of entrepreneurs taking time for themselves to mentally clear the deck.  Check out Beyond Food Made AgainFollow on Instagram Twitter Facebook Follow Simon Boyle Instagram Follow Ruth Cooper Dickson on Instagram Twitter LinkedInCheck out CHAMPS on Instagram Twitter Facebook
  • 3. Spirituality and business growth in health-tech

    52:24||Season 1, Ep. 3
In this episode I get deep on the topic of spirituality with Dr James Somauroo, the founder of somX: the healthtech agency supporting the best health-tech companies in the world. He covers healthtech for Forbes as a contributor and also hosts The Health-Tech Podcast. I was bloody intrigued as to how an Anaesthetics and ICU doctor by training, has held roles not only in leadership, management and innovation at NHS England, Health Education England and the British Medical Journal but directed two health-tech accelerators. The perfect episode for anyone who feels life doesn’t fit their values framework, throwing the rule book up in the air to discover new meaning and purpose. • 2. Wellness leadership and mindful drinking

    41:24||Season 1, Ep. 2
In this episode I have two fabulous guests: Amanda Thomson, the co-founder of Thomson & Scott. Thomson was voted as one of Business Insider’s Coolest People in Food & Drink 2019 and is leading the global shift to delicious alcohol-free drinking with her game-changing Noughty. It was only right I paired her up with Laura Willoughby MBE, the co-founder of Club Soda, the mindful drinking movement. Thomson and Willoughby discuss the topic of what it means to be a wellness leader; whether entrepreneurs get the balance right and the trade-offs to your own health? The conversation features top tips to create a mindful drinking culture in your workplace.  Follow Amanda Thomson on Instagram TwitterFollow Thomson & Scott on Instagram TwitterFollow Noughty Follow Club Soda on Instagram Twitter Follow Ruth Cooper Dickson on Instagram Twitter LinkedInCheck out CHAMPS on Instagram Twitter Facebook
