Nation Real Life

Tyler avoids the cat food, jersey arguments, and Chalmers' winter home prep

Ep. 619

It wouldn't be a Thursday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get through the rest of the work week.

The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Thanksgiving and Chalmers's being upset that he only got one big meal this year. Unfortunately, this was the second year in a row where Chalmers didn't get any leftovers, and he needed to let that frustration out in the opening few minutes of the show. Yet, even with the chance to grab leftovers for himself, Chalmers' laziness outweighed his love of food.

Turning the show back to the Oilers, Tyler talked about his birthday game and how stressful it was when he thought he would have to eat cat food again. Not only did he think he would have to eat cat food after the Oilers fell behind by a pair of goals, but his cat food concerns even prevented him from enjoying the first part of the comeback.

Sticking with Tyler's birthday, he showed up to Nation HQ in a new Cleveland Guardians jersey, and that kicked off a chirp fest about why he wants to get Erik Sabrowski's name on the back. Interestingly enough, Chalmers accidentally confessed that he doesn't get anyone's name on the back of a jersey if that player is younger than him. As expected, Chalmers was a man on an island with this hot take.

Changing gears, Chalmers offered up his annual home prep guide for the changing seasons. From raking the leaves before the snow comes to taking your hose bib off to prevent leaks in the house, it's always great to get reminders on what we need to do to get through the winter without incident. Even though the fellas do this segment every single year, the boys still had plenty of ridiculous questions about the process.

  • 627. Connor McDavid chases 1,000 points, and betting on the Tyson/Paul fight

    56:02||Ep. 627
    Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to wrap up your week and help you navigate this crazy little thing called life. This week, the fellas covered Chalmers' new found appreciation for meditation, Connor McDavid chasing 1000 points, Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul, and a whole lot more. The boys started the podcast by discussing the new studio and how a couple of shipping delays are making Tyler nervous about getting it done on time. But as you'll hear, no one heard the first part of the conversation because none of the microphones were turned on. Picking up where they left off, Chalmers confessed that he's now a meditator and revealed how it's impacting his life.Changing gears, the guys looked at tomorrow's fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul and speculated what everyone thinks will happen. What's clear is that the older boys on the show think 58-year-old Tyson is being disrespected by younger folks who may not remember how devastating he used to be. Granted, Tyson isn't the fighter he was as a younger man, but if he catches Jake Paul with a clean punch, that could be all she wrote. Tyler, however, was willing to put his money where his mouth is with the backing of Jake Paul.Turning the podcast toward the Oilers, the guys looked at Connor McDavid sitting only a single point away from 1,000 in his career, and even took guesses at how he'll pick up the point. If he does reach the milestone on Thursday against Nashville, the thing the guys wanted everyone to remember is that they should enjoy the moment. Even though we've all gotten used to Connor McDavid doing ridiculous things on an annual basis, this latest milestone is anything but normal. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 626. Buying grocery store beers, the #NationVacation, and the Oilers vs. Canucks

    52:45||Ep. 626
    It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. The boys kicked off the podcast by discussing an idea from Target in the USA: patrons can enjoy a beer while they're shopping. The boys then wondered if they would even want to spend more time in the grocery store or if they believed this could be an insurance issue waiting to happen.Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes talking about the Nation Vacation at the end of the month and how the boys are excited about the 5KM run they organized for Denver. Baggedmilk, however, is thrilled to be sitting out that run and promises to meet the boys with a fresh beer when they cross the finish line. Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, the boys discussed how great it was to watch the boys dismantle the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Given that the boys were struggling to score goals, is it too much to hope that the floodgates could open up a little bit? That said, there are still a couple of players — Nugent-Hopkins and Podkolzin, specifically — who are struggling mightily to get pucks in the net. Finally, the fellas wrapped up the podcast with a discussion about Jeff Marek joining The Nation Network and how it's wild to think about how far TNN has come over the years. Needless to say, welcoming Marek into the family was a big moment for the company, and the guys are all excited to see what kind of content he produces with the MSM shackles coming off.
  • 625. Truck Talks: The Guys Hit the Road to talk Oilers

    25:13||Ep. 625
    Today’s episode of The Real Life Podcast is going to have a bit of a different sound to it. The guys hit the road in an all new F-150 from our friends at Sherwood Ford The Giant and were joined by their friend Esky from the dealership, who is a die hard Oilers fan. They talked about his life as a fan and his thoughts on the team. He also walked them through some features on the truck they were driving.They also talked about last night’s loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. It featured a late blown lead, a weak goal from Stuart Skinner, and some tough plays by Evan Bouchard, which had Jay smirking. They talked about the public perception around the team right now and why there’s no reason to be concerned.They also talked a little betting before returning the truck to the dealership and wrapping up the episode!💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 624. The Oilers are heating up & Chalmers has no voice

    46:46||Ep. 624
    A fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to kickstart your week. Today's show had Tyler, Chalmers and Wanye sitting down to talk about the latest surrounding the Edmonton Oilers, their lives and the world of sports. To kick things off, Chalmers talked about why his voice was so raspy and then led to some discussion about his youth sports. From there, they talked about the Oilers' big two wins since their last episode including a massive victory over the Calgary Flames, which sounded like a home game on the broadcast.They then touched on the fact that Connor McDavid could be nearing a return much earlier than previously anticipated. He won't be back for tonight's game however, which is on Amazon Prime and that led to a whole different conversation about how to actually watch the game. From there, they talked about their best bets for tonight and also they mixed in some NFL talk from the past weekend. Tyler also cut his hand and told that story, which Chalmers thought was fake.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 623. Halloween talk, life without Connor McDavid, and social media influencers

    52:08||Ep. 623
    It wouldn't be a Thursday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get through the rest of the work week. On today's podcast, the fellas worked through their favourite Halloween snacks, old bar stories, social media influencers, and a whole lot more. The guys kicked off the podcast with a discussion about everyone's Halloween plans and approaches to the annual candy grab. From cruising around with their young kids to Tyler being dressed as a cat to the best Halloween they've experienced, the Halloween talk was all over the map. Somehow, talking about costumes led Jay and Wanye to talk about the first business they started, running pub crawls.Changing gears, the guys turned the podcast toward the Oilers, as both Noah Philp and Drake Caggiula will make their season debuts with Connor McDavid out of the lineup for the next couple of weeks. While everyone is excited to see what these two can do in the lineup, the conversation turned to social media influencers and how there's a subgenre of creators who do nothing but comment on what's happening with more popular creators. It's an interesting space on the Internet, but one that's growing quickly.Finally, the guys worked through a couple of bets ahead of Thursday's Oilers game and wondered how the team will respond with Connor McDavid on the shelf. Needless to say, the boys aren't exactly feeling too confident given how poorly Monday's game against Columbus went with McDavid on the shelf. Even though there are still so many good players on the team, the days aren't quite as bright with the captain down and out. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 622. Oilers back-to-back, the Dwayne Wade statue, and Tyler and Chalmers are gone

    01:13:09||Ep. 622
    It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get into the rest of the work week.The skeleton crew kicked off the Monday episode by complaining about the co-hosts not being in attendance for the podcast. If there's one thing the boys are good at, it's piling on their teammates when they're not there to defend themselves. Getting back to business, however, the conversation turned to Friday's win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and how it was a big night on the ice and after the game. After the game on Friday, the Oilers added Craig MacTavish and Randy Gregg's names to the Ring of Honour, which led to a conversation about some of our favourite memories of those two players. Wanye then told a story about writing a letter to Dr. Gregg when he was a kid, and how the former Cup winner actually took the time to write him back and how meaningful that letter was to a young hockey fan. Changing gears, the podcast discussed a wide range of topics, from the Lil Durk arrest to food trucks to the World Series to bad tribute statues and everything in between. Starting with the state of hip hop, the guys walked through the insanity of the Lil Durk arrest and how some of these rappers just can't escape the lifestyle. We then discussed the Dwayne Wade statue reveal from this past weekend, and how it could arguably be one of the worst ones ever made. That led the guys to wonder how much prep the Oilers will have to do to prepare for the McDavid and Draisaitl statues that will hopefully come down the line.
  • 621. An equal split between sports talk and complete randomness

    01:05:17||Ep. 621
    It wouldn't be a Thursday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get through the rest of the work week. The boys covered a wide range of topics on the second episode of the week, so if you're looking for 200 topics crammed into a single hour, this is the episode for you. The guys started the second episode of Real Life of the week with a conversation about Chalmers rolling into the studio with a bottle of water, a sizeable departure from his usual rye and coke. That led the guys to talk about Chalmers' sleeping habits and how he often turns to Candy Crush to help lull him to sleep. Talking about sleep led the fellas to discuss their night routine, including another discussion about duvets and pillow selection.From there, the podcast really fell off the rails. Not only were the guys unable to stick to one topic for more than a few seconds, but they also fell into more than a few rabbit holes all over the map. From Halloween costumes to studio upgrades to bodily functions, the middle section of the podcast was a complete disaster in the best possible way. If you love randomness on the podcast, you're in for a treat.Turning the podcast back to sports, the guys worked through a list of topics in the Keep It or Cut It segment. From new power play lines to Canada's jerseys to Bronny James' NBA debut to the Clippers' new stadium in Los Angeles, the sports talk was the first time the boys could stay on track. As you'll hear, the boys had plenty to talk about when it came to basically any sport you could imagine.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 620. Are we more worried about Stuart Skinner or Zach Hyman not having a point?

    01:07:57||Ep. 620
    It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get through the rest of the work week.The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the brand-new Nation Beer and how we'll have some upcoming watch-along events at Odd Company in the coming weeks. If you're looking for an opportunity to get together, we'll have some dads on the calendar coming very soon.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys discussed Saturday's loss to the Stars and how, given how well the team played, the result was incredibly disappointing. Since the game went off the rails despite a strong performance by the skaters, many Oilers fans pointed their finger squarely at Stuart Skinner and his early-season struggles. While it's true that Stu is fighting it right now, there are also a handful of his teammates who are in the same boat.Changing gears, we looked ahead at the Nation Vacation and how Jay is getting the Cleveland quarterback swap he was looking for despite it coming as a result of a horrific injury to Deshaun Watson. While happy that Watson won't be the quarterback for the Browns any longer, Jay was quick to clarify that he wanted a quarterback swap but did not want Watson to get hurt to make it happen. Ether way, this will make for an interesting angle to the football portion of the Nation Vacation.💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365.
